FREEDOM GIVEN TRIO IN STATE EXTORTION CASE Major Mowbray of Culver Fails to Prosecute Local Men. Fji United Peru* PLYMOUTH, Ind., June 29.—Released for lack of a prosecuting j witness, three men held here since early this month were free today from extortion charges. The prisoners. Marvin Gardner, Pittsboro. and Chester Alfrey, 1134 South Keystone avenue, and Scott McKinney. Eastgate hotel, the last two both of Indianapolis, were arrested after Major R. H. Mowbray, Culver, reported they attempted to extort $125 from him. I Major Mowbray asked to be exi cused from giving prosecution testi- | mony, Prosecutor Don Kitch said. HE WANTS HIS $1,000: TRIES GUNS TO GET IT City Man “Camps" in Front of Greensburg Bank; Arrested. Ben Rictor, 1003 Churchman avenue, likes to get money back when he lends it. Some time ago, according to state police, he loaned SI,OOO to a citizen of Greensburg. Wednesday, still according to state police, he went to Greensburg with a 1903 Springfield rifle, a 1908 Krueger rifle and an automatic shotgun and then stacked them, military fashion, before a bank where his creditor had funds on deposit. Greensburg police learned of Rictor's visit when he told bank officials he was going to get his SI,OOO from them one way or another and advised them to hand it over peacefully. He was arrested. CITY YOUTH IS HELD IN DRUG STORE HOLDUP Suspect Is Arested by Police In Terre Haute. Harold Earl Brown, 20, Indianapolis, was in the Terre Haute city jail today, charged with holding up the Heuer pharmacy there, j Police there say Brown, who apI parently has no record here, con- , fesed that a pistol used in the hold-up was stolen Tuesday when Brown robbed a driving range south of Indianapolis on the Brookside road. The alleged hold-up in Terre Haul' would have been successful, police „here say, if Brown had not attempted to force George Haughee, Terre Haute, to aid him in escaping.
