STRONG, EVEN TEETH DEPEND MUGHON DIET Meat Among Best Foods Giving Assurance of Dental Exercise. More and more importance is being placed upon food in oral therapeutics by the dental profession. Diet means so much to strong, well-formed teeth that it must be given consideration even before the birth of the infant. Plenty of those foods which yield calcium—milk and the green leafy vegetables—in fact the diet of the mother will mean that her child’s first teeth, yes, and his setfond teeth, will be sound and strong. With the type of health education which is being disseminated so widely by many different agencies there is no reason why everyone should not have strong, healthy teeth all the days of his life. Cleanliness and proper food and exercise are the instructions every dental surgeon gives his patients. As the foods have become more refined, the teeth do not get so much exercise as they did when grains were coarse and had to be chewed. The act of eating has become too easy. The one who plans the meals should have the teeth in mind as well as digestion and nutrition, for grown teeth need proper food and care just as growing teeth do. Meat is one of the very best, if

CHOPPED BEEF EASILY BECOMES GOOD FOOD Recipe Given for Use of Meat in Form of Cake. It is so easy to make chopped meat into delicious, well-flavored food that there is no excuse for not having it that way. Mix a little grated onion into two pounds of chopped round steak. Add a few drops of Worcstershire sause, salt, pepper and paprika. Form into cakes spread thinly with prepared mustard and put them into a shallow baking pan with melted butter flavored with lemon. Bake about twenty minutes. DESSERT EASILY MADE Cream and Strawberries Used in Ice-Box Dish. Ice-box desserts are easy to prepare and they certainly do tempt lagging summer appetites. The nicest thing about some of them, of course, is that they keep for at least a week and save the homemaker the trouble of preparing dessert each night. Here’s a simple recipe for a fine one: Beat one-half pint of cream until it is quite thick, add one full cup of fresh strawberry pulp, mix thoroughly and put in an ace cube tray. Let stand for several hours. Serve plain or garnished with whole berries. not the very best of foods on which to exercise the teeth, for even the tenderest meat offers some resistance to mastication. Meat should be chewed thoroughly in order to exercise the teeth and to get all of its delicious flavor. The digestive apparatus will do by chemical means what the teeth should do by physical means, but the one is likely to suffer from overwork and the other from underwork. , Children should be taught to use their teeth for the purpose and to the extent that nature intends. Authorities agree that meat may be given to the young child as soon as he is able to chew. Parents may find this food a valuable means of teaching the lesson of giving the teeth proper exercise. Since children enjoy meat, if it is given only on the condition that it be masticated properly, they will soon learn the lesson and apply it to all of their foods. Hot Weather Salad Mix equal parts of cooked asparagus tips, green peas, diced carrots. Lay on lettuce leaves and decorate with chopped pimentoes. Serve with mayonnaise.

EGGS AND MILK FIGHTDISEASE Doctor Recommends Diet as Part of War on Tuberculosis. Bavarian cream, floating island, cup custard, junket, rice or bread pudding are some of the egg and milk desserts that are recommended by Dr. Benjamin Goldberg of the University of Illinois College of Medicine, as aids to immunity against tuberculosis. Contrary to the custom of taking fruit cocktails before a meal, the doctor suggests that fruits and fruit juices be taken with or after a meal. In suggesting a diet for health
