Lieutenant-Governor Ole Olson, shown here in anew picture, claims he legally is the governor of North Dakota because of the conviction on United States felonly charges of Governor William Langer. Olson took the oath of Governor, but Langer refused to surrender his office. Troops guarded the capitol at Bismarck to prevent a clash. NAB ESCAPED CONVICT Youth Caught After Escape From State Reformatory. By United Press HARTFORD CITY, Ind., June 22. —James Anderson, 18, escaped reformatory inmate, captured at Dunkirk, near here, today was on his way back to the institution. Sheriff Ira Maiinix, Blackford county, and officers from Jay and Randolph counties, found the youth asleep in an automobile he said he had stolen Tuesday at Kokomo.

BOTTLE BABIES' CHANCES LESS, 00CT0RSSH0W Old-Fashioned Mothers Give Infants Best Start, Survey Shows. Hy United Press CHICAGO, June 22.—Five of the nation's outstanding pediatrists today gave statistical proof—based on a study of 20,061 scattered cases—that the old-fashioned mother who nurses her own babies is giving them the best start in life. Bottle babies, it was found, suffered more from disease and sickness and the death rate among them was ten times greater than among those nursed by mothers. The study, which pediatrists claimed would once and for all settle an old dispute, was made under the direction of Dr. Clifford G. Grulee, professor of pediatrics at Rush Medical college. Dr. Grulee, although admitting that thousands of “formula babies’’ were husky and strong, said that the survey "knocked the props out from under” a theory that new knowledge of diet and vitamins had made bottle feedings as beneficial as breast | feedings. The study took five years and ranged from the slums to the nurseries along the Chicago “gold coast.’’ The findings indicated: 1. Babies nursed by mothers have a 40 per cent better chance of escaping colds, stomach disorders, and other sickness than those fed by bottle. '2. Nearly fifty-five times as many "bottle babies” died during the first nine months as did breast-fed children.

The pediatrists found that the death rate among the 20,061 babies was 1.1 per cent. Os this mortality only 6.7 per cent was among those nursed by mothers, 27.4 per cent in the partially breast-fed group and 66.9 per cent among those artificially fed.
