BROKEN-BONED BABY IMPROVES; BOARDREMOVED X-Rays Reveal Fractures Are Knitting; Eventual f Recovery Seen. Complete recovery of Caroline Ruby Mercer, month-old baby born with fifty broken bones, was predicted today after X-ray pictures showed that most of the fractures have knit together. . * So great has been the child's improvement that Dr. J. F. Rigg was &ble yesterday to remove her from her improvised board framework on which she was placed shortly after birth. Caroline now lies on a pillow where she will be kept until the tones are completely knit. AH but two of the tiny bones were fractured at birth. One of her thighs was broken when Dr. Rigg gently moved her feet. Another was broken by a nurse while giving Caroline a bath. No effort was made to set the fractures, physicians believing that they would heal better if let alone. The strange malady has baffled medical science. Little hope was held for the baby’s recovery at first, but now Dr. Rigg believes she will develop into a normal child, both physically and mentally. More than 20,000 persons witnessed the parade throughout the downtown streets yesterday. % The aging veterans rode in automobiles until they reached the reviewing stand. Governor McNutt, V. M. Armstrong, state commander of the American Legion; Gerald Mathias, state commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and state officers of the G. A. R. reviewed the parade.
