FOURTEEN NEW STATE DETOURS ARE ANNOUNCED Ten Are in Cities, Highway Board States; Oiling to Start Soon. Fourteen new detours, ten of which are in cities, were established throughout the state this week, the state highway commission announced today. The city detours are where improvement of federal aid highways is in progress. Surface treatment of highways still is in progress, but road oiling will not be started for another ten days. Detours due to construction are: Road 1. Detour through Bluffton, account street repair and bridge construction, is one mile. Detour from Bluffton, account construction, north is four miles over oil mat and gravel. Rad 2. Short detour in Mishawaka, account of repairing city streets, three and one miles detour at south end of Elkhart, account construction, is over pavement and good gravel. Road 3. Detour from .7 mile south of Vernon at junction of Roads 7 and 3 to Blocher is by way of Road 7 to Madison, and then Road a6. Road 5. Traffic drive slowly north of Road 30. account curve eliminations. Road 9. Ten miles detour marked for surface treatment. Wclcottville to Road 6, to be finished June 14. Detour from Huntington to one mile north of Road 114, account of paving, is ten miles over good gravel. Short detours in Marion and Columbia City, account construction are over city streets. Detour from Shelbyville to Greenfield, account of paving is fifteen miles pavement and seven miles good gravel. Sixteen-mile detour marked, Albion to Whitley county line. This will be finished June 18. Road 18. One and one-half mile detour at east edge of Marion, * account construction. U. S. 20. Detour just west of Chesterton account railroad crossing, is onemourth mile for westbound traffic; 2.2 miles for eastbound traffic, oil mat. Road 21. Short detour in Muncie, over city streets. Road 24. Short detours in Logansport and Wabash, account construction, are over city streets. Road 25. Detour from one and onehalf miles west of Shadeland to two and one-half miles east, account of paving, is six and one-half miles over good gravel. Road 27. Short detour in Portland, account construction, is over city streets. Road 28. Detour from Williamsport to Illinois state line, account of paving, is seventeen miles over good gravel. Short detour in Tipton account of resurfacing, is over city streets. Road 29. Run-around at five miles north of Shelbyviile, account of bridge construction. One-half mile detour In Greensburg, account resurfacing. Road 31. Short detours in Jeffersonville, Franklin and Kokomo, account of construction, are over city streets. Rad 32. Twelve mile detour marked for surface treatment. Crawfordsville .east, to be finished June 11. Road 35. Detour from Morgantown to Bean Blossom, is 10*2 miles, fair gravel, narrow. Short detour in Morgantown, account construction of city street. Roads 37, 50 and 58. Detour in Bedford, account construction, is over city streets. Road 39. Short detour in Frankfort, account construction, ver city streets. Rad 40. Because of construction between Cumberland and Greenfield, traffic over five tons, detour between Indianapolis and Greenfield over Routes 52 and 9. North detour marked for traffic under 5-ton weight between Greenfield and Cumberland. Road 41. Short detour in Terre Haute, account construction, is over city streets. Road'43. Detour for southbound traffic from one mile south of Greencastle to Road 40, is five miles over narrow gravel and stone road with one weak bridge. Northbound traffic detour east from junction 40 and 43, thence into Greencastle. Part of detour narrow and not suitable for heavy tra'/kc. DIVING STAR TO PERFORM HERE Mickey Riley, Olympic Title Winner, to Appear at Vonnegut’s. Mickey Riley, Los Angeles, Olympic diving champion, will make a personal appearance at the Vonnegut Hardware Company, 120 East Washington from 10 until noon tomorrow. In addition to his appearance at the store, Riley will give a diving exhibition at the Broad Ripple swimming pool from 2 until 5. Riley has been around the world three times on competitive and exhibition tours and has mastered all of the forty accepted dives, besides more of his own creation. His record includes Olympic champion, 1932, 1928; national champion since 1928, and champion of Japan, 1927 to 1930. His local appearance is under the auspices of the store and the Pacific Mills.
