NEWEST UNIT OF STANDARD FIRM OPENED

East Side Grocery Joins Ranks of World’s Fair Super-Markets. Protected foods is the keynote, not only in appearance, but in the structure of the new World’s Fair Super-Market of the Standard Grocery Company at 6115 East Washington street. Opening is being celebrated today and will continue tomorrow, culminating in entertainment tomorrow night. This structure covering 5,000 square feet has perfect ventilation, two large skylights to allow sunshine plus features that insure immaculate sanitation, glossy finished tile walls, modernistic metal ceiling, Terrazo marble floors, all-steel fixtures and electric refrigeration. The Indiana limestone front is enhanced by a stainless steel margue and a ladge stainless steel Neon sign extending upright from the center of the building, emphasizing the height. Tall stainless steel flagpoles on each end of the building fly the American flag and the NRA insignia. Latest Fixtures Used The interior, with all metal fixtures and shelving is finished in World’s Fair colors —green and cream, giving a cool, clean appearance. The fixtures are of the very latest types and electric refrigeration is used throughout for meats, vegetables and delicatessen. The beautiful fixtures and equipment all form part of the color scheme, giving perfect color harmony. Lighting fixtures are the type that give a daylight effect at all times. The floor is of Tennessee marble terrazo. Here is a Standard World’s Fair super-market that is years ahead of the times. It embodied every new idea for perfectly protected foods and for customer convenience. The arrangements making shopping both easy and pleasant. Honors Founder The fixtures all are beautifully finished to make the foods appear most appetizing. Surely this new Standard Super-Market is a far cry from the old grocery. It embodies modern ideas gained from the country's finest markets from coast to coast. The crowning achievement of the Standard Grocery Company, this market will be dedicated to the memory of the late Lafayette A. Jackson, the Standard store founder. Chester H. Jackson, president, and hi s personnel of 1.200 Indianapolis men and women can be justly proud of this accomplishment. Chester Jackson recalls that thirty years ago when the first Standard store was opened in Irvington the street car tracks were elevated on an eight-foot ridge down the middle of Washington street, through Tuxedo park to Irvington, with only a country road for traffic. Molasses Cake Stir one cup molasses and one cup hot water together in a bowl. Mix and sift together two and onequarter cups flour, one teaspoon baking soda and one-half teaspoon salt and stir this into the water and molasses, then stir in onequarter cup of melted fat. A teaspoon of ginger may be added. Pour into greased tins and bake thirty minutes in a moderate oven.

COVERED DISH PICNIC MAY BE HELDINDOORS Distribute Cooking Task Instead of Burdening Single Person. A form of indoor picnic is the covered dish luncheon. It may be for the benefit of several families who wish to get together for a meal without placing all the burden of cooking on one person. It may be an acceptable idea to many clubs which meet for luncheon or have an occasional all-day meeting. Each person in the party contributes one dish for the menu. Or,

if it is a large party, two or three persons may go together providing a dish. The food is cooked, put in a dish, covered, taken to the place where it is to be served. There it is warmed and served in the same covered dish in which it was brought. Salads and cold desserts are put on the table in a dish with a cover. Cakes are brought in cardboard boxes lined with tissue paper. The idea is that all the food is in some kind of covered container. If it is preferred, the food may be brought uncooked and two or three persons detailed to cook it while 'the others go on with the merrymaking. On different occasions the women may take turns in the kitchen. The food is served, piping hot, in the covered dishes. The table service at this luncheon should be more or less picnic fashion, although it would be very satisfactory for someone to act as host, or hostess. Here are a few menus specially
