BRITAIN WORKS ON TAXES FOR JAPANTSJOODS Trade War Declared Against Nippon to Restrict World Trade. (Copyright, 1"*34. fcr United Press! LONDON. May B—A grim fight to restrict ■world trade proceeded m London today while British and : other statesmen continued statements that restoration of the flow of international commerce was an essential of economic recovery. The cabinet, after declaring a trade war against Japan now slashing at the textile trade of Britain,; was working out measures to an- ! pose import quotas in the crown j colonies on Japanese goods. It l awaited anxiously tariff reprisals! against British goods. Most serious in its political implications was the trade war. announced in the house of commons j by Walter Runciman, president of the Board of Trade. Great Britain’s strategy was to force Japan into an agreement to partition world markets in the textile trade, whereas. Japan wants to limit such an agreement to Great Britain and crown colonies, j Britain's tactics were to declare the trade war and to invite Japan to bring forward proposals to end it. Meanwhile, the Japanese government announced that anew tariff law. permitting punitive imposts on i goods of countries which hindered Japanese trade, would go into effect today. Japan seemed convinced that j damage to its trade would be minimal. It was estimated here that Japan would be deprived by British action in the colonies of only about 100,- j 000,000 yards of sales of cotton goods out of 2.000.000,000 a year in cotton goods exports. Messages received here from Canada, Australia and New Zealand in- j dieated that Britain could hope for little support from those domin- : ions becaus 1 ’ of their tavorable trade j balances with Japan. Eczema over Face. Could Hardly Sleep. Cuticura Healed. “Eczema broke out in pimples all over my face and spread to my arms. When I put water on my face it itched and burned until I thought I would go crazy. I could not bear to have people look at me. The pimples were large and hard and my skin was sore and red. I could hardly work or sleep. “\Vhen I read an advertisement for Cuticura Soap and Ointment I sent for a free sample. Then I purchased more, and after using about three boxes of Cuticura Ointment with the Cuticura Soap I was healed.” (Signed) George Doll, R. 1, Box 35, La Salle, UL f 1 Cllra Soap 25c.
