Contract Bridge
Today’s Contract Problem North Is playing the hand at six spades. East opens a club. Should the declarer attempt to ruff the losing clubs? Or how would you play the hand? Sol niton to Previous Contract Problem BY \V. E. M’KENNEY Secretary American Bridge League TODAY'S hand is one of the oldtimers. It has been usecl in contests and in series of problems, but a great many of my readers have been writing about it, so I am giving the answer today. If you have seen it before and have tried it. you have found it unusually interesting. I am afraid, if you set this hand up for your friends and asked them to bid it. that no two of them would bid it alike. However, it is not a bidding problem, but rather one of play. a u a WEST opirns the king of clubs, which South wins with the ace. He then leads with the jack.

THE digestive system of the snake works rapidly, and every part of a swallowed animal soon is dissolved, with the exceptions of hoofs and hair. The powerful gastric juices seem to have no effect on these substances. • NEXT—Can an Aadraliaa native nut down a kangaroo? *
The ace of spades must be returned and the ace of diamonds discarded by South. Now a small spade is played and trumped with the seven of hearts. The eight of hearts, then is led and won in dummy with the queen of hearts. The jack of spades is returned and trumped with the nine of hearts. Now the ten of hearts is played and won in dummy with the king. The ace of hearts is played and the king of diamonds discarded. Os course, the trump has been picked up and the queen, jack, ten, nine and eight of diamonds are all good in dummy. Thus the declarer makes his grand slam. (Copyright, 1934, by NEA Service, Inc.)

As Zora waited in the tent it seemed to her that Bukula took an unnecessarily long time to return. She determined not to wait any longer for him, but to go out into the jungle in search of La and the escaping party. As she was about to go an Arab stuck his head inside the tent.

“‘ Where is Hajellah, your sentry?” he demanded. ‘ How should we know?” retorted Zora 'in a sleepy voice. The fellow turned and called aloud across the camp, announcing that Hajellan was missing and inquiring if any had seen him. Abu Batn questioned every one.

“The women are in the tent?” he asked the new sentry. “Yes,” he answered. “I have talked with them.” “Search the camp and see who is missing,” commanded Abu Batn. The search was made. They found that Ibn Dammuk, Hajellan, Fodil and Darewym were missing.

“Ibn Damipiuk has deserted us!” said Abu Batn, “Well, let It go. There will be fewer to share th reward for the two women.” Worried as to th fate of La and disappointed because of her own failure to escape. Zora spent a sleepless night. If she but knew the truth.
