NEW YORK TAXI RIOTS SCREENED IN TIMES FILM Fire Tragedy That Cost 14 Lives Also Pictured in News Reel. Hectic scenes in New York City as striking taxi drivers defy the police and strike other drivers, pulling passengers from cabs, breaking windows and wrecking machines, are to be seen in the current issue of The Times-Universal Newsreel. Graham McNamee. the screen’s talking reporter, describes this and the other important news events in the reel. Gathering at city hall to present their demands to Mayor Fiorello H. LaGuardia. the strikers later assemble in other parts of the city, holding up hundreds of taxis on the streets. Wild scenes result and scores are hurt before the strikers are quelled. McNamee also describes the other important news events in the reel, including. William F. Green, president of the American Federation of Labor, hailing President Roosevelt's plan to avert a strike of 300,000 workmen in the automotive industry; scenes in the Holy Land and throughout the world as colorful ceremonies mark the Easter-tide; views in Lynchburg, Va., where fourteen jobless men died when a fire swept a federal relief shelter; Nila Cram Cook, former disciple of Mahatma Gandhi arriving in New York City from India; Mussolini greeting the king and queen of Siam at Rome, Italy: girls towing a huge locomotive at Seattle, Wash.; ski-jumpers in a dangerous race at Franconia, N. H.; workmen casting a twenty-ton mirror for the world’s largest telescope at Corning, N. Y.; and the New York Rangers, Stanley Cup champions, losing a fast game to the Montreal Maroons in a play-ofl for the 1934 championship i n Madison Square Garden.
CHURCH MEN’S CLUBS TO HOLD PARLEY HERE Leaders From Seven Counties to Attend Regional Dinner. Men from seven Indiana counties have been asked to join in the annual men’s meeting of the Christian churches of the Indianapolis area, which will be held in Central Christian church tonight. Following the dinner at 6:30, a program will be given. Speakers will include P. A. Wood of the Central Christian church; Hilton U. Brown of the Downey Avenue Christian church; James H. Tilsley of the University-Park Christian church, E. D. Lowe of the Olive Branch Christian church. Dr. G. I. Hoover, general secretary of the Indiana Christian Missionary Association; Dr. H. O. Pritchard, general secretary of the board of education of Disciples of Christ. Virgil P. Brock, executive secretary of the Indianapolis church union, will lead singing. FINE LICENSE VIOLATOR Driver Pays sls and Costs for ITse of Fictitious Name. Earl Wainscott. 21, of 1253 West Thirty-fourth street, was fined sls and ccsts in municipal court yesterday for taking out a driver's license under a fictitious name. A charge of vagrancy lodged against Wainscott was dismissed when it was found he was using a false operator’s license. He was instructed by the court not to operate an automobile for one year. Governor Goes to Minneapolis Governor Paul V. McNutt left yesterday afternoon for Minneapolis. Minn., where she will address an educational meeting tonight. He will return to his office tomorrow. women’s work In CWA. The analysis covered the cases of 1.673 women, and it showed that more than 7,000 persons were supported by those includ’d in the study. More than half of the group studied had no incomes at all before CWA. The average for the entire group was less than $5 a week a family. In 80 per cent of the cases, the income was less than $lO a week, and 28 per cent of them had seven or more in the family.

BANK LIQUIDATORS SUE STATE SCHOOL BOARD Court Asked to Determine Money Group Had in Closed Firm. Suit asking the court to determine the amount of money the Indiana board of school commissioners had on deposit in the Fletcher American National bank when it was closed is on file in superior court five
Friday by Frank C. Bopp, John P.' Collett and Otto J. Fericht, liquidating agents for the bank. The suit alleges that during the bank holiday, the bank, as an emergency measure, advanced the school board a total of $28,226.85 of $35,187.03 balance of the board, as of Feb. 25, 1933. Other depositors were permitted to withdraw only 5 per cent of the total deposits. The petition asked the court to 6rder the state sinking fund heads
to reimburse the old Fletcher American bank, now the American National bank, for a part of the money advanced to the school board during the bank holiday. “Home-Made" Tags Bring Arrest State police yesterday arrested Raymond McHugh, 51, 1210 North Sheffield avenue, at Indiana avenue and North street, on a charge of driving his car with "home-made” license plates.
