Solution to Previous Contract Problem BY VV. E. M KENNEY Secretary American Bridge League O OCCASIONALLY we find ourselves in a contract where the only possible chance we have of making it is to get the most favorable break in the world. If that is so, at least you should try for that break. Don't give up and simply say that the hand can not be made. In today’s hand you must watch your entries and establish the fifth heart for a discard. Not a difficult hand, but one that a careless player might miss. Overcalling with four card suits, when vulnerable, is very dangerous and should be avoided. West cashed the king and ace of spades and then led the jack of diamonds, which South, declarer, won with the ace. South could see that he could discard two losing diamonds on the ace and king of hearts, and that, if the hearts were

divided four-four, the third diamond could be discarded on the fifth heart. a m u T TOWEVER three entries in dummy are going to be necessary to execute this play. So the declarer must lead a small club to dummy—not the deuce, but the four—as the deuce must be preserved in the hope that the three will be an entry into dummy. The ace and king of hearts then are cashed, two diamonds being discarded. A small heart is led and ruffed with the five of clubs—again the declarer must be careful to hold on to that deuce. Now’ the six of clubs is played and won in dummy with the queen. This picks up the outstanding trump. The fourth heart is led and again the declarer must preserve the deuce and trump with the eight of clubs. This establishes the fifth heart in dummy and the declarer leads the deuce of hearts, overtaking in dummy with the three spot. He then discards his losing six of diamonds on the eight of hearts and his contract of five-odd is made. (Copyright. 1934. by NEA Service. Inc.)

TARZAN THE INVINCIBLE
Leaving two w’arriors to guard La, Abu Batn gathered up the few black servants that remained in camp. These he forced to prepare loads of camp equipment. While this was going on, the sheykh ransacked the tents of the Europeans.

He found in Zora’s tent a box containing a considerable amount of money, though by no means the great quantity that he had expected, a fact which was due to Zveri's foresight. He had personally buried the bulk of his funds beneath the floor of his tent.

Zora met with unexpected success in her hunting, for within a little more than an hour of her departure from camp she had come upon antelope, and tw’o quick shots had dropped as many members of the herd. She waited while the porters skinned and dressed them.

Then she returned leisurely toward camp. Her mind i’as occupied to some extent with the disquieting attitude of the Arabs, but she was not at all prepared for the reception that she met when she approached camp about noon.
