NEW DRIVE FOR JOBS IS BEGON BY NRA CHIEF Hopes to Have Every Man at Work by Further Reducing Hours. By T'nitrd Pro* WASHINGTON, Jan. 11 The government today pressed its drive to provide a job for every working man. Recovery Administrator Hugh 8. Johnson prepared to ask industry to reduce working hours in all codes, creating jobs for millions. He would not say how far present hours which average forty per week would be cut, but expressed the opinion that “eventually this whole country has got to go to a shorter work w’eek. I think if business turns up and looks better, we can. Not only that, but I think it is going to." Action will await conferences here Feb. 15 of code authorities for about 200 industries. They will consider a united movement to reduce hours and also attempt to correlate codes and clear up conflicts in jurisdi?-: tion in which some industries find themselves under as many as eight or ten codes. Asked if there was “a sharp tendency” toward the thirty-hour w'eek. which has been advocated, General Johnson said it could not be obtained “by fist decree without raising cain.” It was Inferred that General Johnson had a thirty two-hour w’eek in mind. He stated the recent increase in hours under the automobile code from thirty-five to forty was experimental during the period of increased production, and that he was not quite satisfied it would absorb all the industry's sur-
