51,000,000 IN DEBENTURES IS SOLD TO U. S. Surplus Also Reduced by Fletcher Trust to Enlarge Capital. Action taken at the meeting of the shareholders of the Fletcher Trust Company yesterday authorized the selling to the government of $1,000,000 in twenty-year 5 per cent capital debentures, subordinated to deposits, and the reduction of surplus in like amount by writing down assets and setting up reserves. The action was taken in accordance with recommendations from the federal government for the enlargement of the country’s banking capital. The following directors were elected at the meeting to serve one year: Henry C. Atkins, Albert Baker. Joseph J. Daniels, William A. Durkin. Carl F. Eveleigh, Frank E. Cates. Carl C. Gibbs. Aloert S. Goldstein, Hugh McK. Landon, Norman Metzger. Samuel D. Miller, Almus G Ruddell, George P. Torrence and Evans Woollen.
FIND BOY ON ROAD, HIT-AND-RUN VICTIM Condition of William Ervin, 16, Is Critical. William Ervin, 16. of 1020 South Fleming avenue, was in critical condition at city hospital today as result of injuries received last night when he was struck by a hit-and-run motorist in the 4800 block West Washington street. Young Ervin’s unconscious form was found in the road by Charles Weaver, 604 South Cole street, and Lucian Perry, 1008 Collier street, who called deputy sheriffs. The youth was suffering from severe head injuries, including possible skull fracture. Nearby was found an automobile door handle to which adhered bits of hair. MACGILL BEQUESTS LEFT TO WIFE, SONS Crane Company Manager Leaves 560,000 Estate. Estate left by Robert A. Mac Gill, 5260 North Meridian street, who died Dec. 29, is valued at $60,000, of which SIO,OOO is in real estate, according to letters of administration issued yesterday in probate court. The widow, w T ho was named administratrix, will receive one-third of the estate, the remainder being divided among three sons, Robert A. Mac Gill. 10; David D. Mac Gill, 7, and Richard C. Mac Gill, 4. Mr. Mac Gill, who died intestate, was Indianapolis manager of the Crane Company. INDIANA U. TO GIVE INCOME TAX COURSE Professional Men to Be Instructed on Law and Preparing Returns. Careful study of the new income tax laws and practice in preparing forms will be undertaken in a new course in income tax procedure at the Indianapolis center of Indiana university extension division at 6:15 each Monday night. The new' course has been planned for accountants, lawyers and business men. It will be in charge of Geoffrey L. Carmichael, w'ho has been on the staff of the Indiana university school of business administration for four years. Mr. Carmichael also will conduct classes in business correspondence at 6 each Monday evening. CENSUS JOBS FILLED Business, Housing Survey Workers Employed by State All of the approximately 100 jobs incidental to the Marion county business census and housing survey have been filled and no more applicants need apply. Martin F. Carpenter, director of the state employment service warned today. Mr. Carpenter said the office had been besieged by job seekers and the enumerators positions were filled quickly.

Dr. Frank is one of the speakers scheduled for the annual agricultural conference at the university w'hich opens today and continues through Friday. The Purdue Threshin’ Crew will provide music. CWA APPROVES BUILDING OF 2 STATEAIRPORTS Improvement of Three Others Given 0. K. by Authorities. Establishment of two new airports in Indiana, at Culver and Rensselaer, and improvement of three others, Richmond, Madison and French Lick, were approved as projects by the state civil w’orks administration yesterday. Similar projects at Terre Haute, Portland, Bloomington, Michigan City, Lafayette and Muncie, previously had been approved. Men to be employed on the new' projects and estimated cost in wages and materials is Madison, forty-four men, $6,075; Culver, 119 men, $lB,269; Richmond, eighty-nine men. $12.651! Smith, president to succeed Robert Fox. who resigned to accept the post of conciliator for the federal labor department. The presidency has been held by Mr. Smith on ten occasions. He is a member of Stage Employes Union, Local 30. The union made preliminary plans for the President's birthday ball, to be held Jan. 30 in Tomlinson hall. Mr. Smith will serve as general chairman and Adolph J. Fritz as finance committee chairman.
