MURDER HINTED IN CITY DEATH Coroner Claims Fall Not Responsible for Fatal Injury. Death of Mrs. Elizabeth Hutchinson. 3651 North Illinois street, last Wednesday, was being investigated by police today as a murder, following an autopsy by Dr. John Salb. deputy coroner. Police who first investigated the death of the 69-year-old woman inclined to believe that she had died as the result of a fractured skull after falling downstairs at her home. Although he is holding the verdict open, Dr. Salb. after an examination of the body, declared the skull fracture was so large that ‘ no woman could have got it in a fall downstairs.” Mrs. Hutchinson lived with her sister, Mrs. Alice Costin, and a nephew, James R. Costin. Police were told by the nephew that his aunt was subject to fainting spells. He said he had been helping her with some laundry work in the basement, but left to go on an errand. When he returned, he found Mrs. Hutchinson lying dead at the foot of the basement stairs, he is alleged to have told police. The investigation of the homicide squad caused a report of acciuental death to be turned in, but, according to police, the autopsy performed by Dr. Salb convinced the coroner that the aged woman had been struck from behind with some heavy instrument.
