MEAT PACKERS REPORT HEAVY YEAR'S PROFIT Three Chicago Firms Show Substantial Gain in Earnings. By f fitted Press CHICAGO. Dec. 21.—Three of the nations leading packers submitted annual reports today revealing that the industry which gave Chicago the nickname ‘ hog butcher of the world" is completing a year of striking prosperity. Successful operation of the parking firms was in sharp contrast to the producers of the industry—the ccrn belt hog raisers whose year was marked by bare economic suosistence. Swift <% Cos. reported a net profit of $10,149,582. Cudahy Packing Company a consolidated net income of $1,813,766 and Wilson Ac Cos.. Inc., net earnings of $2,935,564. The report of Armour & Cos., other member of the "big four" among packers. is expected within a few days. Each of the three companies which already have submitted th r 'ir earnings reports showed the doldrums of the previous year had vanished. The gain in each case was sensational. Stockholders of the various companies shared in the returns from a prosperous year. Swift Ac Cos. earnings amounted to $1.69 per share, $2 64 a share on preferred dividends of the Cudahy Company, and $1.75 a share,, for the Wilson company, the annual statements reveal. Officials of the companies declared much of the increase in business was directly due to processing a good share of the 3,000.000 pigs and piggy sows, ordered slaughtered last fall when Agricultural Secretary Henry A. Wallace inaugurated the hog control plan in his effort to lift hog prices. JESSE JAMES WITHOUT HORSE: HE’S MOTORIZED Arrested After Store Is Asked to Send Change to Fake Address.
