CRUSADER FOR BETTER HOUSING CONDITIONS DIES Mrs. A. F. Bacon Will Be Buried Tomorrow at Evansville. By Timet EVANSVILLE. Dec. 12.—Funeral services for Mrs. Albion Fellows Bacon, 68. nationally known writer and lecturer who died here Sunday following a long illness, will be held today at Trinity Methodist Episcopal church. Mrs. Bacon long has been a militant worker for better housing conditions, and she was responsible for housing laws passed by the state legislature in 1909 and 1913. She became much sought as a speaker before civic organizations, and was elected secretary of the Indiana Housing Association and a director of the National Housing Association. Mrs. Bacon was also deeply interested in children. She was chairman of the child welfare commission created by the 1919 legislature. When the commission was disbanded she reorganized it as the Indiana Child Welfare Association and served as its president several years. She was the author of “Beauty for Ashes,” the story of the Indiana housing campaign; "Consolation,” "The Path to God” and "The Charm String.” She was the sister of Mrs. Annie Johnson, author of the "Little Colonel” series of juvenila stories, who died a year ago. Surviving Mrs. Bacon are ths husband, Hillery E. Bacon; two daughters, one son and one sister.

NOTED CHEMIST WILL ADDRESS CITY GROUP Dr. Edward W. Washburn to Talk at Severin. An outstanding chemist, Dr. Edward W. Washburn of the Bureau of Standards, will be the principal speaker at. the monthly meeting of the American Chemistry society, Indiana section, in the Severin Thursday night at 7:30. Dr. Washburn was appointed chief chemist in the Bureau of Standards in 1926, and has been with the government ever since. Connected with many scientific publications, he was editor of Internal Critical Tables and has been on the editorial board of the American Chemical society. Dr. Washburn will speak on the separation and identification of the hydrocarbons present, in petroleum.

W. C. T. U. TO GIVE CHRISTMAS PROGRAM Scripture Lesson, Carol Singing and Reading Scheduled. A Christmas program will feature a meeting of the Mary E. Balch W. C. T. U. chapter, to be held iji the home of Mrs. Eunice Standquist, 1101 Congress avenue, Friday afternoon from 1 to 4. Mrs. C. H. Bush, local evangelist, will give a scripture lesson and devotion. Mrs. Harry T. Surber will sing Christmas carols. “Why the Chimes Ring,’’ a reading, will be presented by Mrs. Mary Hensley. An offering for the budget will be received and a surprise candv gift will be distributed. Mrs. Elbert Moore, president, will preside.
