Visitors to Missionary Conference May See ‘Nazarene.’ Hailed as a "significant contribution to the religious life of America,” a famous picture of Christ, “Nazarene,” by Colonel H. Stanley Todd will be exhibited here at the United Foreign Missionary Conference at the First Baptist church. The painting viewed by more than 15,000 persons daily in the world's fair Hall of Religion, where it was exhibited by the Federal Council of Churches of Christ in America, was dedicated by the artist to the “cause of Christian missions throughout the world.” Following its presentation in principal cities of the United States, “Nazarene” will be displayed in leading cathedrals on the continent by the Universal Christian Council and sponsored by the Federal Council's department with churches abroad. In contrast to the convention conception of Christ as the “man of sorrows,” this painting presents Christ as fair-haired, blue-eyed and of courageous aspect. Dr. E. Stanley Jones, internation-ally-known missionary, who will speak at the conference sessions here, has referred to the painting as “in Todd's Christ I find purity, poise, love, suffering and triumph. Here at last is a concept of the Christ which the world can utterly respect and love.” The conference, meeting here Thursday and Friday, will have on its program such noted personalities as the Rev. John Roy Strock, former principal of Noble college. Masulipatam, and a member of the all-India commission on higher education; Miss Lillian L. Picken, evangelist and social worker of Satara, India; the Rt. Rev. Logan H. Roots, bishop of the diocese of Hankow, China, and Dr. Heran Chen-en Liu, president of the University of Shanghai.
