Buck Jones
The ace of Western stars. Buck Jones, comes to the Alamo today for three days in "The Thrill Hunter.” Buck this time is cast as a prevaricating westerner, who arrives in Hollywood and, through a motion picture contract, is forced to make good his wild boasts before the camera. The director calls for him to ride a horse on to a race track, jump off in front of a high-powered racing car, knock the villian out of it, then stage a sensational race with a number of dare devil drivers. Instead. Buck demolishes the race car and nearly wrecks the speedway. In another sequence he is scheduled to do stunt flying in a plane, but his false claims show up when he loses control of the ship and nearly kills himself. In the meantime, he has been boasting to a movie actress about his ability as a general sportsman, and she believes in him until she discovers he is the world's greatest liar. On the same bill will be a comedy, news events and anew chapter of Tarzan the Fearless.
At Ambassador
The Ambassador tomorrow and Monday will offer a double feature program with a first showing of "Flaming Gold." starring William Boyd. Mae Clark, Pat O'Brien and Helen Ware, a story of romance and adventure in the Mexican oil fields. The love theme centers about a unique triangle which threatens to destroy the friendship of the men who are teamed to defy the might of a great oil company. The extra added picture is “East of Fifth Avenue,” heralded as the "Grand Hotel” of a New York rooming house. The cast includes Wallace Ford, Dorothy Tree, Mary Carlisle, Walter Connolly and Walter Byron. Flip the Frog will be seen in a comedy cartoon entitled, "The Soda Squirt.”
Did You Know That—
Warner Baxter is the film colony’s top-notch tennis player and one of its most expert fishermen? Will James, author and cowboy, attains the unique distinction of playing himself in Fox Film's production of his story, "Smoky?” Walter Catlett, before he became tin actor, was a prizefighter and suffered but one knockout in 116 ring engagements? Malcolm St. Clair, who directed El Brendel in "Olsen's Big Moment,” was, at one time, a cartoonist on a Los Angeles newspaper and lost his job when he demanded a $2 raise? George O'Brien lives outdoors and when he is indoors reads stories of the outdoors? The early ambition of Lew Ayres was to become a hobo, go places and see things? Sid Silvers, on three different occasions, bought steamship tickets to go abroad, but just as many times got.cold feet when sailing time came and has never been out of the United States, except for trips to Mexico and Canada?
