| charges of attempted bribery and being an habitual criminal last night were being prepared today by i defense attorneys. Sammons, former aid of A1 Capone. was sentenced immediately to life imprisonment by Judge William J. Murray in Lake circuit court. The conviction came on the fifth ballot by the jury. He was charged with attempting to bribe with S2OO a deputy sheriff who arrested him for drunkenness. Previously he had been convicted in Illinois of murder, j criminal assault and highway robbery. He was wanted in several states i for various offenses, and twice had forfeited bonds in Chicago. Officers said Sammon’s record shows thirty or more arrests since!

1923, and that he has spent twentyfour of his fifty years In prison. Given a five-year prison term in 1900 for attacking an 11-year-old girl, he was paroled in 1903. and. two months later was arrested and convicted of murdering an Illinois saloon keeper. Sentenced to hang, the term was commuted to life in prison, and in 1917, he escaped. Captured a few months later and identified as a drug store robber, Sammons was returned to prison, but was given a commutation of sentence in 1923 by Governor Len Small of Illinois. There are more non-race-eating people in China than the whole population of the United States; the 150.000.000 people of north China subsist on wheat, corn, millet, beans and other dry land crops.

The recognition of Mr. Sanborn came as a result of his activity and achievej ments as a member and officer of | the National Electrical Contractors’ I Association, of which he has been | president, vice-president, director and chairman of numerous committees in the thirty-one years of his membership. He is credited with three major'

achievements in the electrical fie’d. As chairman of the committee on underwriter rules this committee obj tained recognition of the electrical contractor in the inspection of eleci trical setups by underwriters. He also devised a set of universal ’ symbols to be used in architectural plans and specifications for electrical work.
