—Let’s Go Fishing— COLD WEATHER DRIVES ANCLERS FROM STREAMS Warden’s Report Lakes in Northern Indiana Are Ice-Covered. BY LEFTY LEE Timet Fl.hint Editor Game wardens of the state report that the fishermen have been few and far between during the last week owing to the cold. The hunters have been numerous, however, and all of the nimrods are taking nice bags, rabbits and quail being plentiful. Some of the smaller lakes in the northern part of the state are covered with ice at the present time and with continued cold weather it won't be long until the boys who love to fish through the ice will have their innings, the wardens rtport. Warden Eaton, Warsaw.—There has been plenty of winter in this part of the state since last Thursday. A fall of snow measuring three inches was recorded. Many blue bill ducks are on Lake Webster. Hunters were plentiful and they all had ducks. Warden Grossman, Noble and De Kalb Counties—All sportsmen in this territory and others from over the state were out last week, and they all had game. Reports coming in indicate that game is plentiful. There was heavy snow in the northern section. The lakes and rivers are having a rest, as far as fishing is concern. Warden Imhoff, Logansport— Streams in Cass and Miami counties are low and clear. With the exception of the Wabash, the streams are frozen over in places. Warden Merideth, Attica—The streams in Warren, Fountain and Montgomery counties are in fine shape for fishing. Hunters have been thick in this territory during the last week and the bags are normal. Warden Hanlin, Jay, Adams and Blackford counties—The rivers and streams are at a normal stage, but there has been no fishing owing to the extreme cold weather. Hunters report that rabbits and quail are plentiful. Wardens Anderson and Boolhauve report that creeks in Clinton and Boone counties are frozen over. There are plenty of rabbits and muskrat. Many hunters are out, and they all have game of some kind. Warden Morgan, Terre Haute— All streams are clear and in good shape but there are no fishermen out because of the cold weather. Warden Perley, La Porte—Small lakes and ponds are frozen over. Nice bags of rabbits have been taken during the last few days. Warden Marksbury, Richmond— Hunting in Wayne, Union, Henry and Randolph counties has been slow r owing to the cold weather. Warden Herron, Hope The streams in Johnson and Bartholomew counties are in the best condition of the season and some fine fish are being taken from Driftwood, Sugar Creek and Flat Rock. Very few geese and ducks are stopping on White River this season. If every man who takes a gun afield would observe the American sportsmen's creed, it would help the sport. The creed follows: Never in sport endanger human life. Never kill wantonly, needlessly or brutally. Obey the law's of state and nation, work for better laws and uphold the law enforcing authorities. Respect the rights of farmers and property owners and also their feelings. Always leave seed birds and game in cover. Never be a fish hog. Discourage the killing of game for commercial purposes by refusing to buy trophies. Study and record the natural history of game species in the interest of science. Love nature and its denizens and , be a gentleman. A card from W. S. Hiser, secretary of the All-Star Gun Club, tells why this gun club did not shoot last Saturday. We will pass it on to you in his own words. “Saturday all the members of the Indianapolis Gun club took to the field, so there was no shooting at the club,” he wTites. “I did so myself. I went in the field at seven and quit at 9:45, having made six shots and bagging five rabbits. It was a delightful morning's shoot. This does not indicate necessarily that game is plentiful as the next fellow who comes along over the same field will find them scarce. Births Bovs Paul and Ethel Jordan. 828 River. Honesty Rewarded BROWN leather purse, containing money. keys, man's gold watch. Reward. BE-2403. Needless to say, Miss M. Quinn, 1654 Rochester Avenue, was terribly upset when she discovered the loss of a purse containing many valuable articles. Miss Quinn immediately phoned a lost ad to The Times and the purse was returned the same night by the finder. Most finders of lost articles would v, like to locate the loser. And in an effort to do so, they naturally look in the Lost & Found column in The Times. To Find What You've Lost Ph one Th e Times RILEY 5551
