SUICIDE VERDICT GIVEN IN DEATH OF PUBLISHER Dow, Jones Head Victim of Forge Fumes, Says Medical Examiner. By Vnitrd Prftt COIIASSET, Mass., Oct. 20. Hugh Bancroft, president of Dow, Jones & Cos., and publisher of financial papers, was pronounced a suicide today by Medical Examiner George V. Higgins following his burial at Forest Hills cemetery, Boston. ' Mr. Bancroft died Tuesday night at his Cohasset estate, Deer Mill. First announcement was that he had been the victim of a heart, attack. Dr. Higgins said today that Mr. Bancroft had entered a forge house on his estate, closed all v.’indows ana the door, and started a Are in the forge. He died as a result of the fumes. ‘‘l am positive it was suicide,” the medical examiner said. Friends said

Mr' Bancroft had been in poor health. Funeral services for Mr. Bancroft were conducted yesterday afternoon in St. Stephen's Episcopal church here. Mr. Bancroft was publisher of the Wall Street Journal, the Boston News Bureau and the Philadelphia Financial Journal. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American war and had been a famous oarsman at Harvard. More than 3,129 persons we?e killed in road accidents in England during the last half of 1932; only 33 of the accidents were absolutely unavoidable, 85 per cent of the rest being due to persons losing their heads.
