—Let’s Go Fishing— CITY FISHERMEN LAND QUOTA AT LAKE SHAFER Blue Gill Limit Taken by Party From Citizens Motor Cos. BY LEFTY LEE Times Fishing Editor A fishing party from the Citizens Motor Car Company, O. Burkhardt, K B. Hillls and Ed Werler Sr., fished at Lake Shafer, Shakamak park, over the week-end and a limit catch of blue gill was made. Mr Werler furnished the entertainment j for the boys with the help of a six-teen-inch bass. The weather was crispy and Mr. Werler had his cane pole lying across the boat while j he warmed his hands. Mr. Bass came along and took that pole away. The one run netted the bass thirty yards and this angler made | some wonderful time in getting up I his anchor for the tackle before the j bass reached the goal line. As is j often the case, haste makes waste and it was so this time, for as Mr. i Werler put all he had in the strokes j to overtake the fish, the oar broke, j With only one oar, and the fish j making a fresh run each time he j neared it, the time passed by, but he finally closed the gap and land- } ed him. The other members of the j party promised not to tell on him, j but the temptation was too great and, as they explained, he can at least claim the bass was a real scrapper, as it took him the better part of an hour to land him. Roy Strong. Bridgeport, has taken j three huge cat fish from his favorite hole in Eel river, about fifty ! miles west of Bridgeport this season, his latest catch weighing ! thirty-eight pounds. The other two j weighed twenty-eight and thirtyfive pounds, a total of 101 pounds for the three. In addition to these ; any number weighing from two , to ten pounds were caught by this , angler who specializes on this ! species of fish. Carl Losey who has been up in | Wisconsin all summer having the time of his life catching trout, bass, j and northern pike, writes in that the approaching hunting season in j that state has the hunters oiling up j their guns for the greatest season j in recent years. The game is plenti- j ful, in fact driving at night through j the woods where Mr. Losey is resid- j ing is dangerous as the deer are so plentiful that they come down on the roads and seem to defy you to hit them. Mr. Losey's many friends can reach him at Criditz, Wis., in care of Levy Hale, or if they wish to make up a hunting party, he advises them to come on and guarantees good sport. A1 Reed landed four bass weighing from one and one-half to two | and three-quarters pounds on Su- j gar creek. Three of them were large mouth and one a small mouth. Carl Callahan also tried his hand at fishing Cicero creek, and landed a small mouth bass weighing two and one-half pounds. Mr. Callahan is the boy who lost that big one when his leader parted and he always glares at Emil De Luse when any one asks him about this. In self-defense. Mr. De Luse says it never pays to buy a second hand leader, after which Mr. Callahan remains quiet, but he seems to have followed this advice, as he had no trouble in landing that beauty Sunday.
