TAMPICO STORM TOLL IS FIXED AT $57^000,000 Dead May Reach 200 as Aid Is Rushed to Flooded Areas. By United Preen TAMPICO, Mexico. Sept. 28Damage in the hurricane and flood which devastated this port and nearby towns on Sunday night and Monday was estimated today at upward of $57,000,000. Interior Secretary Edouardo Vasconcelos arrived to take charge of relief work. He sought to check on the dead and injured, but it was feared it would be days before an official casualty list would be forthcoming, due to difficulty of communications with stricken villages and interior towns. The dead, however, were expected to reach at least 200 and the injured thousands. West Areas Flooded One of the first moves of the secretary was to send the plane up again, loaded with food and medicine, to fly over small farms in the flooded districts inland, dropping supplies if unable to land. The area first aided was that flooded by the Panuco and Tamesi rivers, which destroyed hundreds of wooden cottages. There has been no contact with these districts for days, and the damage and loss of life was feared high. The rivers were reported still rising and other spots so far above the floods may be inundated. Looters Are Executed The first executions of looters at Tampico occurred today (Wednesday) when two men caught in the act were shot by military authorities. The water situation was reported becoming acute, water being sold by the bucket. The United Press correspondent stood by the river today and saw twenty bodies floating out to sea, justifying all predictions that the death list will be far in excess of that known now. An official estimate said 14,000 persons were homeless in the Tampico district.
