TWO NEGROES SLAIN BT MOB Lynchers Take Men, Accused of Killing White Girl, From Officers. B]t f'ntfr/J I‘rrtt TUSCALOOSA. Ala . Aug. 14— A mob Sunday killed two Negroes accused of murdering a young white girl. A third Negro, seized when the mob overpowered three undersherHfs. could not be found. It was believed he had been killed also. Bodies of Dan Pippin Jr, 18, and A T Hardin. 16, were found near Woodstock, half-way between here and Birmingham, about two hours after the three Negroes had been seized. They had been shot to death. Elmore Clark, 18 whose fate was not learned immediately, was the third of the trio facing trial’ on charges of slaying Miss Vaudine Maddox. 18. on May 31. The prisoners were en route to Birmingham, sixty miles away, for safekeeping after a mob gathered Saturday night at the county jail here. The sheriff’s automobile, following an indirect route, was blocked on a lonely trail near Woodstock by about a dozen white men riding in two automobiles. Recently when the Negroes were railed into court. Circuit Judge H B Foster, presiding, barred attorneys of the International Labor Defense from participating in the trial. Feeling ran high. A company of Alabama national guard was called to protect the lawyers. The hearing was postponed until Aug. 22.
