M'NUTT CHILD HEALTH SETUP IS EXPLAINED Maternal Welfare Work to Be Placed Under School of Medicine Also. Governor Paul V McNutt's plan of placing the department of child health and maternal welfare of the state under the Indiana university school of medicine was outlined for doctors today by Dr O V Torian of the department or pediatrics of the school Under the title, "The Indiana Plan.' Dr. Torian gives details of the new setup, including various committees personnel, wuerebv a state-wide program of child health is to lx* worked out The article appears in ’he current issue of the Journal of the Indiana State Medical Association. Formerly child and mat'-rnal welfare work was under Dr Ada E Schweitzer, in the state health detriment. with a $65,000 annual budget. Now it is to lx- handled through the school, with approval and co-op*ration of the state and county medical associations. Two Educational Measures This dominance of the organized medical profession in the reorganized public health plans of Indiana was scored roundly recently by Dean C. E A Winslow of the Yale university public health department, writing in the August SurveyOra phic. A committee apixnnted by the university drafted the plan of procedure, and approval from the State Medical Association was procured. Dr Torian points out. Two educational measures ar“ to be carried out at this time They consist of post-graduate teaching for physicians and lectures to child health organizations. Dr Torian. as chairman of child health, appointed state-wide committees of doctors on post-grad-uate teaching, child health and w elfare organization, pre-school child immunization and tuberculosis.
