Prr*rru methods for crimp control arc resting Indiana more than $15.600 000 each year, a rr|>ort of the Indiana crime survey commission for 1020-30. on flic in the legislative reference bureau of the statehou.se. revealed todav. This is one of the major arguments presented bv the voluntary joint association of state-w ide membership organizations which has formed the state police radio committee and has opened a public subscripuon campaign to raise SIOO,OOO for construction of a complete state police radio system The direct expense of criminal losses ea< h year in Indiana, the survey commission found is $5,755,000 Actual property losses approximate $1,000,000: stolen automobiles. $700,000; bank robberies. sl6l 000; burglary and theft. $1,376 - 301, and Fidelity insurance premiums SBB7 132 The methr>ds of crime control can not reckon with the inventions for speed and devastation used bv today's highly specialized criminal, the radio committee contends. In addition to the direct losses, the commission reported. Indiana annually pa vs citv and community licc forces $4,300 000. and for the maintenance of sheriffs’ ufflt es, $366 786 Another $5,500,000 g.es to the expense of courts and prosecutions of cases in which criminals are brought to justice. The commi'tee asserts that actual proof has revealed that police radio svstems :n larger cities are capable of cutting crime losses by 50 per cent. The committee estimates that at least SB,OOO 000 can be cut from the state's cost of crime by a wellplanned twentv-four-hour state police radio system.
