SPECULATE ON HULL RESIGNING POST IN CABINET State Secretary, Returning From London Parley, Sticks to Guns. BY WII.IIXM PHII.IP SIMMS *er tnf> Heward f nreirn Mllr WASHINGTON July 28.—A* State Sr-rrlary Cordell Hull set sail today from the scene of the ill-fated world eronomir conference at London to return to the state department, there was speculation here as to whether the proud, sensitive high-minded Tennesseean would remain much longer in the Rooso\elt cabinet Apparently, his views nd those of the President and some of the men about the President—including General Hugh S Johnson, industrial commission, and assistant S’atc Secretary Ravmond Molev, one of the brain trust —are not altogether in harmony. In his closing speech before the london conference Thursday, just as he had done at the commencement. Secretary Hull warned the world that tariff barriers would ha\e to come down and other economic and financial problems on the conference agenda be settled before world recovery would be complete. Here in Washington. General Johnson was telling correspondents that the United States might have to increase its tariffs against imports in order to protect American producers whose cost.s are nowmounting "We will act promptly if necessary, hr said. Currency stabilization and tariff reduction were the two major items on the lamdon agenda The President refused to permit dollar stabilization or tariff issues to come up The world has $40,000,000,000 less commerce annually than normally. .Secretary Hull reminded in his speech Thursday, and a revival of foreign trade to take care of surpluses and help put 30.000 000 unemployed bark to work he regarded as one of the main keys to prosperity. He reiterated his firm belief m world co-operation as a way out of the depression. Molev. on the contrary, contends that world trade relatively is unimportant and that “in large part the cures for our difficulties lie within ourselves." He believes in each nation pulling itself out of the hole, though he admits "wise international co-operation can help." SCOUTS ON WAY TO JAMBOREE REPORT Message Prom City Travelers Is Read to Executive Board. A message from Indianapolis Scouts en route to the international Boy Scout jamboree at Budapest. The Indianapolis boys s?'d they are looking forward to attending the jamboree where they will put on an Indian stunt along with the Texas delegation. Irving Williams, court of honor chairman, read some statistics, in which he pointed out that more Scouts are working on merit badge honors than ever before in the history of the local scout organization.
