Hind told police he was walking near the intersection when the men stopped him. "God a cigaret, buddy?" they asked. "No, I haven't, but. I can give you some tobacco.'' Hind answered. One of the trio picked up a brick and slugged Hind on the head. He was treated at the city hospital for cuts. July 28.—Postmaster General James A Farley wants the Republicans to know that the Democrats appreciate their many kindnesses. Lots of Republicans, he reported, still are "holdover” postmasters, and others are members of state public works advisory boards. The latter serve without pay. "And why. Mr. Postmaster General, have you been so good to the Republicans?" demanded a doubter. "We are grateful to the Republicans, who have made it possible for us to be around," Farley said, "and we want to reward them." LET PAVING CONTRACT Highway Commission Awards Work to N'oblesville Company. The state highway department Thursday awarded a paving contract to the McCowan Construction Company of Noblesville. The contract calls for one mile of twenty-foot concrete pavement on state road 9 at Alexandria. The cost will be $30,944 66.

With resignation of Arthur Btxter from the state library building commission, commissioners sent completely pro-Governor Paul V. McNutt. They met Thursday and elected Herbert Kenney New Albany as chairman, the position having been held by Baxter The latter resigned when Governor McNutt ordered other departments into temporary quarters in the new building Kenney is a McNutt appointee as assistant public counselor of the public service Commission He was legislative ad\:sor to McNutt during the 1933 session He originally was appointed to the library building commission by former Governor Harry G Leslie. All members were reappointed by McNutt.
