GULPS DIAMOND RINGS, OUTWITS TWO BANDITS Woman Swallows Jewelry as Thieves Halt Car After Party. Swallowing two valuable diamond rings, one of four club women outwitted two bandits Tuesday in a daylight holdup at Hanna and Carson avenues in which one of her companions lost $1,200 in diamonds. Miss Beulah Shirts, >.261 North Talbot street; Mrs. Flora Hayes and Mrs. Goldie Fohl, both of 3653 Boulevard place, and Mrs. George Stiles, 221 West Thirty-seventh street, were returning from the eighth anniversary party of the Artemus Club at the home of Mrs. Frank Freers at Lindbergh Highland. Mrs. Fohl was driving, the bandits crowding her car to the side of the street near the intersection. “Let’s see your driver’s license,’’ ordered one of the bandits, reaching over and turning off the ignition. Mrs. Fohl complied and the bandit drew a gun and said "Let’s have everything you’ve got.” He took Mrs. Fohl s two diamond rings from her, returning her wedding ring when Mrs. Fohl pleaded with him. Mrs. Hayes quietly had extracted S7O from her purse and slid the currency behind her. Mrs. Stiles had dropped her purse on the floor of the car and put her feet on it. The most spectacular of the outwitters was Miss Shirts, who swallowed her two diamond rings. One of the bandits noticed her tugging at her rings, but she swallowed them before he could approach her. Another car was coming so the bandits leaped back into their own automobile and drove away. ‘‘Give me back the key, anyway,” pleaded Mrs. Fohl. "We’ll throw it in the road for you,” returned the driver of the bandit car. He tosssed the key out about two blocks away. Truck Injuries Fatal BEDFORD, June 28.
