WEAK CABLES SEND WHEAT PRICES DOWN Corn Follows Major Grain in Early Deals: Oats Strong. BY HAROLD E. RAINVILLE United Press Staff Correspondent CHICAGO, June 23.—Wheat and corn continued to react as the Board of Trade opened today but the other grains showed resistance to pressure and opened higher. Weakness at Liverpool offset strength in stocks and wheat prices were to % cent lower. More favorable weather was reported in Canada. Corn eased with wheat and on the failure of damage reports to be received, prices being unchanged to % cent lower. Oats was unevenly Vi cent lower to % cent higher but rye was % to 3 cent higher and barley was to % cent higher. Provisions were about steady.' The situation in the United States indicates the smallest wheat crop in many years unless the outlook for spring wheat improves markedly. Liverpool was off % to % cent at mid-afternoon, weaker than expected. The country sold 525.000 bushels of old corn Thursday, surprising the trade and depressing futures due to the hedging of this amount in the pit. The undertone remains comparatively strong. Damage reports still pour in on oats and the smallest crop in twenty or thirty years is assured. The market has responded in full to this factor and prices are at the tops for the season with trade more active.
