—Let’s Go Fishing— DON BRAFFQRD WINNER IN TWO CASTING EVENTS Most Indiana Streams in Fine Condition, Report From Wardens. BV LEFTY LEE Timm Staff Writer Fifteen members of the Indianapolis Casting Club participated in four different events at the club pool at College avenue and Fall Creek Sunday, before a large crowd of interested spectators. Don Brafford was the winner of the three-eighths and five-eighths ounce accuracy events, with Deluse, Alvis and Carter finishing two-three-four in the three-eighths event, and Spear, Alvis and Mason taking second, third, and fourth in the five-eighths contest. The five and three-fourths ounce flyrod accuracy test was won by Mason, with Deluse, Alvis and Spear in the other honor spots, while the five and three-fourths flyrod for distance contest was won by Spear with Mason, Alvis and Deluse as the runners-up. The new state law for fishing requires all persons over 18 to have a license. In former years, a person was permitted to fish in his own county and the adjoining counties witnout a license, but the new law. which will be enforced rigidly, requires a license in all counties. The licenses may be obtained from county clerks, the Department of Conservation, Fish and Game Division, and their delegated agents, on the payment of sl. Non-resident license is $2.25. The only exempted persons to this flaw are honorably discharged soldiers, sailors, marines, and army nurses, fanners and their families, <and bona fide farm tenants, on their own farms only. The revenue derived from this form of taxation is used solely for the purpose of restocking the lakes end streams of the state, and the guarding of the waters against illegal fishing, seining, etc., and all persons who enjoy this form of recreation feel that the small Amount charged by the state is used Wisely. G. O. Stone, game warden at Bloomington, reports Salt, Indian, Dichland, Doane, Plummer, and Bean blossom creeks and the west fork of White river muddy, but with continued fair weather these streams should be in shape for the opening Friday. The Salamonia, St. Mary’s and Wabash rivers in Jay, Adams, Wells and Blackford counties are at a normal level and the catfish are biting. The cats also are biting in the rivers and streams in the vicinity of Vincennes, according to a report from Warden Claude Burnett. In fact, he reports the cats biting fine, which should be good new r s for the angler who likes a w r ell-filled bucket. Jefferson and Jennings county also reports good fishing, and the water clear. At Attica, all streams are clear with the exception of the Wabash, which is muddy. Good news comes from Stark and Marshall counties, the warden from this part of the state reporting the bass finished spawning. According to Warden John Marlesbury, the waters in Rand and Henry counties are cloudy. Bob Reagan and Bob Jenkins deny the charge that they are bluegill fishermen, but no one has heard of them canceling their order for one bushel of hardshell craw-fish which every one knows is this pan fish's diet. Does Pee Wee Van Horn get peeved when the big ones get away? Early Sunday morning. Van Horn had eight fair sized cats in the bag when he hooked a big channel cat and last him. To make our first fish story a success. Pee Wee claims he then tossed the other fish back in the river and journeyed home talking to himself. If all the fishermen carry out their plans over the week-end, the city of Indianapolis will be wellnigh depopulated.
