ROCKEFELLERS AND AIDS MAY FACE INQUIRY Senate Asked to Order Investigation of U. S. Oil Industry. fill ,'Vrtpj)-//r<>rr<f \rir.impir Allinnre WASHINGTON, June 9.—ln the midst of the J. P. Morgan investigation, the senate is being asked to approve another inquiry that probably will call the Rockefellers and their aids to testify. Senator William G. McAdoo 'Dem., Cal.) has introduced a resolution see-king a senate investigation of the oil industry, and this could not be conducted without the Rockefeller petroleum interests playing a big part. McAdoo, incidentally, is among the senators conducting the Morgan investigation, and his naiyie was on two of J, P. Morgan and Co.’s lists of preferred purchasers of stocks at bargain prices. "There can be no doubt," said McAdoo, ' that the elements of a giant private monopoly are in the petroleum industry of the United States. For the past few years, a combine embracing the entire civilized world has been in the making in the oil industry. The protection of our people demands that there be no private monopoly in the oil business. Congress must take all necessary action to prevent, it "The price of gasoline and other oil products to the consumer is fixed by arbitrary action. The gigantic combinations of capital that control the production, transportation. marketing and distribution of the products of this industry must not be left uncontrolled by proper governmental agencies.” Control such as Senator McAdoo suggests is contained at least in part in the national recovery bill. The senate oil sections are broader than is generally recognized, and under them something approaching a lederal “dictatorship" of the industry—but without that name which upset Senator McAdoo, his con.stitnents in the oil business and others—is possible.
