R. 4. Box 533, appeared at the scene of the shooting after officers arrived. Stating he was a nephew of McMahan, Devere surrendered, saving hp was present when the shooting occurred. The ottiers were arrested at their homes. They are William Davis, 17, of 5724 Laurel street; Joseph Church, 17, and George Church, 19, R. R. 6, Box 643, and Robert Wenmng, 16. R. R. 6. Box 307. Wenning. at whose home the officers said they found a .22-caliber long barrel automatic pistol, is said to have admitted firing the shots w hile Hergenroether was struggling with McMahan. The prisoners deny they planned a robbery, but were unable lo explain their presence in the vicinity. INLAND STEEL PLANT BOOSTS PRODUCTION Pay Roll Largest for More Than Two Years. I nitrrl Prctt* HAMMOND, Ind., May 19.—Tire Inland Steel Company was operating at 40 per cent of capacity today and employing approximately 4.300 men. Officials said the pay roll was the largest it has been for more than two years. Eleven of the twenty-six open f hearths are in operation. Orders ce been received from breweries, lipment manufacturers, builders, and contractors and railroads.
