BOOST GOAL TO $3,000,000 IN CITY JOB DRIVE Several Thousand Persons Find Work as Result of Modernizing Efforts. With $2,780,400 pledged, city modernization campaign leaders today are continuing the drive to the $3,000,000 mark. Date for close of the campaign has not been set. Incomplete tabulation of pledge cards indicates repair work will or has begun on more than 4,000 homes. This list is expected to be boosted considerably in the next few days, wish final reports from workers. Property owners not yet contacted by workers and desiring to pledge for a certain amount of repairs are requested to notify campaign headquarters, Chamber of Commerce building. Leaders attributed success of the drive to the advantage of property owners repairing and remodeling while material and labor prices are low. Several thousand tradesmen and laborers are expected to find jobs as result of the campaign.

CHAIN TAX APPROVED Graduated Fee Measure Is Passed by Michigan House. By l nilrii t’rrn LANSING. Mich , May s.—The state house of representatives today approved the Fitzgerald bill imposing a graduated tax on chain stores. The vote was 85 to 3. Fees range from $lO per store to a maximum of $250. depending upon the number of stores in the chain. Revenue estimated at $3,000,000 would be appropriated for school purposes. The measure now goes to the senate.
