ANN HARDING LOST HOPE FOR OCEAN RESGOE ‘Thinking About My Will When Rescue Came,’ Says Film Actress. BY LAWRENCE HAAS 1 nltfd Press Staff Correspondent HAVANA, Cuba, May s.—Ann Harding, stage and screen actress, sat safely in her suite at a hotel here and confessed a little shakily th there were moments during her immersion in the shark-infested waters ofl the coast here Wednesday when she had "started thinking about my will.” "But I only lost one earring,” the screen star said. "I managed to keep my sun-glasses. I continually was shivering when the sun went behind the clouds. "However, I am terribly sunburned today—it took me hours to dress.” The star, together with Alexander Kirkland, actor, and Marie Lombard, her secretary, were rescued after clinging for three and onehalf hours to the slippery keel of their upturned sailboat. Both Women Badly Sunburned She and Miss Lombard were sunburned a bright crimson and moved gingerly, but aside from that seemed little worse for their dangerous experience. Kirkland's legs are badly bruised, but he otherwise was unhurt. Miss Harding told how the sailboat capsized in a sudden squall two miles off the Jaimanitas Yacht Club. Magin Alvarez Piedra, skipper of j Ihe little craft, was drowned. He had sought to swim ashore for aid, j but they saw him suddenly disappear. ‘‘l am certain that Alvarez was ; uninjured when the boat capsized,” ' Miss Harding said. “He swam about j before departing for the shore, but ! I think he misjudged the distance. It was over a mile. Not Much Hope Left “I rather enjoyed the first part I of our immersion, but later it was no fun. I saw shark fins while we clung to the boat—but I said nothing. "We hadn’t much hope left when rescued, because earlier we failed to attract the attention of a power boat towing a barge which passed between us and the shore. I started thinking about my will and didn’t see the rescue boat until it was almost on top of us.” They were picked up by an Englishman, J. L. Waggett, and George Andrews, second secretary to the i United State embassy in Havana, on | Waggett’s yacht. Used Clothing for Signals “We tried not to take the situation too seriously,” said Kirkland. "First, I tied my white shirt to an oar to attract attention. It failed. Then I asked Miss Harding for her pink dress, which I tied to an oar. I traddled the hull, waving the dress. “We realized the seriousness of our predicament, all right, but we all joked and sang Cuban songs to pass the time.” Miss Harding and Kirkland re- 1 fused to take seriously questions about Kirkland’s rumored engage- i ment to Miss Harding.

CASTLE NOW IS DOARDING HOUSE i High Tax Forces Scotland Duke to Take in ‘Paying Guests. I Bn United Press DRYMEN. Stirlingshire, Scotland, May s.—Forced by high taxes •to abandon Buchanan Castle, his j ancestral seat, and turn it into a house for “paying guests,” the duke of Montrose and his duchess have moved into a small dwelling on the shores of Loch Lomond nearby. Even the sale of huge tracts of land did not yield the duke sufficient funds. The arrangement probably will last only during the summer, and be resumed next year. Numerous improvements have been made in the interior of the castle and an efficient business staff has been installed. Board and lodging at Buchanan Castle come to $42 per week. The castle, in fact, is known to be one

Missouri Optometrists Are Told. Bn United Press KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 5. Newspaper reading is excellent exercise for the eyes, Harry L. Foug, of Los Angeles, told the Missouri Optometrist Association at its annual convention here. Newspapers. Foug added, also provide for an individual to test his own eyes. Hold the paper in a good light he said, about 16 inches from the eyes. If you can read it easily, your eyes are all right. To make the test still more conclusive, move the paper quickly to about nine inches from the eyes. If you still can read it, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with your vision.

Frank R. Lemasters. manager, found the combinations had been knocked off two safes this morning when he opened the office. The safecrackers had gained entrance through a skylight. WHAT KIND OF MEN DO WOMEN ADORE?
Doctor Tells How Limp, Weak Men Get Vigor, Endurance with Yigovite, Wine-Like Elixir. Maybe you think there’s nothing in this cave man stuff, but just let your wife or sweetheart find that you're weak, lacking in vigor and endurance, and you'll get contempt, pity and the gate—instead of love and adoration. Women adore men of force, action—not softies! When your arms encircle them at the dance, they want to feel solid, vigorous. healthy flesh and muscle—not flabby skin and gaunt bone. No girl finds romance in skinny, puny arms and legs. No wedded bliss results from weakness in either sex. That's whv divorce courts are crowded. Says Dr. 'I. E. Booth, well-known New York physician: -This preference on the part of women is as old as the world. It's natural for a girl to look for stalwart, male strength on which to lavish her admiration and affections—men who have steel and whipcord in their fibre —men able to SETT the pace as well as KEEP it. Some men can not meet this test. This causes many divorces. But by far the majority can and will if only they take this plain, simple advice.
