PYTHIAN LODGES WILL HOLD NINE STATE RALLIES Grand Lodge Officers to Attend Sessions of Indiana Divisions. Nine district meetings have been scheduled by Knights of Pythias lodges throughout Indiana for this week, and one or more grand lodge officers are expected at each session. Shield lodge, No. 71, will entertain lodges in the Eleventh district; composed of Boone, Clinton, Tipton and Hamilton counties, at a meeting in Frankfort, tonight. Owen E. Curry, Thorntown, district deputy, will be in charge of the meeting, and Carl R. Mitchell, Indianapolis, grand keeper of records and seal, will speak. The rank of page will be conferred on a large class of candidates. Lodges in the Twenty-first district, composed of Greene, Davies, Knox and Sullivan counties, will be entertained tonight at Linton by Metropolitan lodge No. 193. J. A. Colbert, Washington, district deputy, will be in charge, assisted by Walter V. McCullough, Washington, grand outer guard. Third District to Meet Washington lodge, No. 94, at Michigan City, will be host to lodges in the Third district, composed of Elkhart, St. Joseph and LaPorte counties at a meeting tonight. William G. Matthews, LaPorte, district deputy, will be in charge, assisted by Joe W. Todd, Hammond, grand master at arms. At a meeting tonight, Hagerstown lodge, No. 198, will be host to lodges in the Seventeenth district, composed of Fayette, Franklin, Union, and Wayne counties. John P. Harry, Hagerstown, district deputy, and Harry C. Sullivan, Vevav, grand vice-chancellor, will be in charge. On Tuesday night, lodges in the Fifth district, composed of Jasper, Newton, Pulaski and White counties, will be entertained by Rensselaer lodge. No. 82. Dr. C. E. Lloyd Pleasant, Orleans, district deputy, will be in charge, assisted by McCullough. Ritualistic work will be conferred on candidates. At another Wednesday night meeting, lodges of the Fourteenth district, composed of Hendricks, Putnam and Montgomery counties, will be entertained by Lizton lodge, No. 342. at Lizton. The meeting will be in charge of William F. Compton, Russellville, district deputy. Rank to Re Conferred Members of the reorganized Hendrick's-Putnam County Pythian Association will also be present, and will hold its first meeting. H. W. Adams, Brown.sburg, is president of the reorganized association and R. B. Myers, Lizton, is secretary. Three Meetings to Be Held This Week by Red Men
Logrollers Modern Woodmen Will Hold Annual State Contest July 4.
ANNOUNCEMENT has been made that the annual state logrolling contest of the Modern Woodmen of American will be held July 4. at Turkey Run state park. Drill contests also will be held that day, and S9OO in cash prizes will be given to the best men and women teams in the state. Colonel S. G. Fitch, Kokomo, will be in charge of the program. DEGREE WORK IS SLATED Mystic Tie Lodge to Hold Ceremony Late Today Mystic Tie lodge, No. 398, F. & A. OPEN HOUSE IS SET Englewood Fraternities Social Club to Entertain Thursday Night. The Englewood Fraternities Social Club will hold an open house meeting Thursday night at 7:30 in the Masonic temple, 2716 East Washington street. The meeting had been scheduled for last Thursday. Roy W. Allred, chairman of the committee in charge, has arranged a varied program of entertainment, with cards and dancing to follow. REBEKAH ASSEMBLY IS SET FOR MAY 15 Delegates From Each Lodge to Be Chosen This Week. The forty-ninth annual session of the Rebekah assembly of Indiana, will be held in Indianapolis, May 15 and 16, according to an announcement by Mrs. Revah Pressler, Crown Point, president. Delegates from each Rebekah ledge in the state will be elected this week by their respective lodges. Official headquarters for all delegates will be in the English hotel. The decoration of chivalry will be bestowed Sunday afternoon. May 14. in the Denison, by Brigadier-Gen-eral Elmo Gustin. department commander, and staff. Entertainment will be offered at a get-together hour from 8 to 9 that night on the thirteenth floor of the Odd Fellows building. Informal opening of the assembly will be at 9 Monday morning. May 15. PYTHIANS WILL MEET Inter-Lodge Visit to Be Held Under Crusaders’ Sponsorship. Twenty-Three Tribes to Take Part in District Rally on Saturday. Three meetings have been scheduled by the Red Men and Pocahontas of Indiana this week, and several great chiefs are expected to attend each. The Degree of Pocahontas of New Palestine will entertain their members and friends tonight at an open meeting. Arch H. Hobbs, Indianapolis, great chief of records of the Red Men, and Houston j. Patterson, Indianapolis, great junior sagamore, will speak. The meeting will be in charge of L. Cherry Ross, New Palestine, great keeper of records of the Degree of Pocahontas. Poapka tribe, No. 223 of Clifford, will celebrate its twenty-fifth anniversary tonight. O. W. Coxen, Elwood, great senior sagamore, known as the “Red Men's Poet,” will speak. John C. Hager, Clifford, deputy great sachemfi will be in charge. On Saturday night, Sannap tribe, No. 331, at Brownstown, will entertain the Eleventh district Red Men's organization. Twenty-three tribes will take part in the meeting. The Eleventh district is composed of Marion, Morgan, and Hendricks counties. By Timet Special PLYMOUTH, Ind., May I.—The Elkhart-Kosciusko-Marshall district encampment meeting of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, will be held here Saturday night at 7:30 in the Armory hall, with Plymouth encampment No. 113. Delegates for the meeting are expected from Indianapolis, South Bend. Gary, Toledo, Rochester and Ft. Wayne. All grand officers of the grand lodge will attend. Mrs. Nellie Manning of Irvington Rebekah lodge was elected president of the Sixth district, composed of Marion county, at a meeting held with Myrtle Rebekah lodge, No. 326, recently in the hall, Addison and West Washington streets. Mrs. Clarissa McDaniel of Honor Rebekah lodge was elected vicepresident; Mrs. Opal Foltz of Olive Branch Rebekah lodge, secretary, and Mrs. Minnie Begley of Oakland Rebekah lodge, treasurer. The Myrtle lodge degree team confen ed the Rebekah degree on three candidates. They were Luther Shirley, Lois Oldham and Leona Hodges. Mrs. Mary’ S. Wilson, warden of the Rebekah assembly, gave a school of instruction, and gifts were presented to past grand officers and Mrs. Geraldine Stout, president. A dinner was given in the West Park church.
White Shrine Officers Go to Grand Rapids Parley
Supreme Session Will Last All Week; Mrs. Binkley Heads Party. Mrs. Salome Binkley, worthy high priestess of Indianapolis White Shrine No. 6, headed by a delegation of present and past officers of the local shrine, which left Sunday to attend the supreme session of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, which started today in Grand Rapids, Mich., and will last through Friday. Present officers accompanying Mrs. Binkley included Elmer Kiefer, watchman of the Shepherds; Mrs. Carrie Lee Jones, worthy chaplain; Mrs. Katherine Armbruster, worthy shepherdess, and Mrs. Ruby Willoughby, worthy guide. Past officers making the trip were Mrs. Harriet Kiefer, Mrs. Nellie Hosman, Mrs. Nellie Stammel, Mrs. May Marcum Jacobs, Mrs, Tressie O. Kirk and William Kirk. The local patrol, directed by Virgil Ferguson, captain, will give an exhibition drill Wednesday night at the session.
Knights Templar Conclave Will Be Held Here May 10
J. Rufus Hinshaw Is in Charge of Arrangements for Meeting. J. Rufus Hinshaw, Newcastle, deputy grand commander of the grand commandery of Indiana. Knights Templar, is chairman of the executive committee in charge of arrangements for the seventyninth annual conclave of the grand commandery to be held here May 10 and 11. Total attendance for the session is expected to reach several hundred, including wives of delegates from commanderies. The official list will include the three first officers of commanderies and past commanders. Other members of the arrangements committee include: Ralph Howard, Plainfield, grand captain general; Roy D. Smiley, Washington, grand generalissimo; Clyde E. Titus, Indianapolis, grand standard bearer; W. W. Suckow, Franklin, past grand commander; W. H. Swintz, Indianapolis, grand secretary; E. J. Scoonover, Indianapolis, past grand commander, and John T. Boyd, Vincennes, grand commander, ex-officio. No Parade Planned Dispensation has been granted for the knights attending the session to appear in full Templar* uniform. No parade or public demonstration will be held, it has been announced. Headquarters for the grand commandery officers, distinguished guests and other visitors, will be at | the Indianapolis Athletic Club. Hotel arrangements are in charge of Titus. Many of the usual entertainment features will be omitted this year, but luncheon will b" served for the official body at the temple, Thursday. A luncheon for women will be served at the same time at the Columbia Club, under the direction of Mrs. C. F. Neu, chairman of the women’s committee. Reports Being Prepared J. Lewis Bray and Ray Briggs, commanders of Raper Commandery, No. 1, and DeMolay commandery, No. 62, respectively, will extend Templar hospitality with a ball at the Masonic temple, North and Illinois streets, Thursday night in honor of the grand officers, visitors and women. Preliminary business of the conclave will be the meeting of the various standing committees at the Masonic temple, Wednesday afternoon, May 10, including the bodies of Templar jurisprudence, auditing, finance, distinguished guests, credentials, visiting knights, dispensations and charters, grievances and appeals, necrology and other routine matters. BEN-HUR COURT TO GIVE DANCE Fete to Be Held Wednesday Night: Initiation Rites Are Held. Arries Court. No. 5. Ben-Hur Life Association, will hold a dance and meeting Wednesday night at 8 in the hall. 322 East New York street. Music will be furnished by the BenHur orchestra. The court held an initiatory meeting last Wednesday, and the Melters degree, fun degree of the order, was conferred on twenty-seven candidates. More than fifty members of Ben-Hur attended a banquet in the hall, preceding the meeting. The court’s orchestra has been selected by the home office of BenHur at Crawfordsville, to play for a dance, May 20, at the Ben-Hur annual state congress at Elkhart, May 19 to 21, and will accompany the local court's drill team to the congress. County delegates .are expected to attend the Indiana state convention of the Modem Woodmen of America Wednesday and Thursday in the Severin. Harry S. Redkey of Muncie, state consul, will preside, assisted by Dr. O. G. Vogeli, Evansville, state clerk. Delegates and alternates will be named to the head camp, which will be held in Detroit the first week of June. Representation will be apportioned so that each congressional district will have one representative in the national meeting, at which officers will be elected for four-year terms. State conventions will be held at the same time in all states and Canadian provinces where the society operates. The convention will open with a banquet at 6:30 Wednesday night.
