Seven persons were injured, one seriously, in traffic accidents during the week-end. Richard England, 20. of 1626 West, Market street, suffered a fractured right leg and severe head lacerations when his motorcycle collided with an automobile at. Lyndhurst drive and Washington street. Charles VanVactor, 53, of 3808 Rockville road, driver of the car, escaped injury, as did several persons riding with him. Mrs. Vivian Johnson, 42, of 516 Fletcher avenue, and her daughter Patricia, 2. suffered cuts when they were hurled through a glass partition of a taxicab in which they w'ere passengers when the taxi stopped suddenly. Mrs. Amanda Murtpaugh, 70, of 5138 West Fourteenth street, suffered a wrenched neck and her granddaughter, Marylynn Yount, 7, incurred cuts when an automobile driven by her son-in-law, Merrill Yount, collided with another car. Walter Parks, 27, Negro. 323 East New York street, the other driver, was arrested for failure to have a driver's license and reckless driving. Lee Ray, 40, of 224 South McKim street, who told deputy sheriffs he owned the car, was arrested on a drunkenness charge. In another accident minor cuts were incurred by two 17-year-old girls. WORKS BOARD DEFERS RESURFACING DECISION South Side Improvement Meets Unexpected Opposition. Faced by unexpected opposition, the works board today deferred until *May 22, final action on a resolution for af* $140,000 south side j street resurfacing program. Twenty-nine persons appeared before the board in opposition to the program and fourteen supporting it. Board members expressed the view , that supporters present were only a small part of those who favor the project. The South Side Civic Association, which has waged a campaign for the work, was not represented. Payment plan proposed is city, 75 per cent; Indianapolis Railways, Inc , 10 per cent, and property owners, 15 per cent. Final hearing on proposal to complete the New York street resurfacing and widening program will be held by the board Wednesday morning.
