CORONER DROPS VACANT HOUSE DEATH PROBE Suspect to Be Discharged: Decide Life Ended by Natural Causes. Drr. John Salb, deputy coroner, today announced the inquiry into the death of John Ballard. 72, of 1237 North Mount street, has been dropped since an autopsy reveals that Ballard died of natural causes. Inquiry into Ballard's death, to determine if he were murdered and robbed, began with the arrest of Jesse (Shorty) Benjamin, Negro, 37. to be discharged today on a vagrancy count. Benjamin was arrested after a Negro woman in the neighborhood is said to have made the remark: “Shorty had better tell what he knows about Ballard's death.'' Ballard’s son, Enoch Ballard, with whom he made his home, said his father had $39 when he left home last Friday. The money was missing when the body wa- discovered Monday. Found by boys in a vacant house at 949 North Lynn street, Ballard was wrapped in his own coat and stretched out on the bare boards. A bruise on the right temple probably was caused bv a fall, according to Salb, and the skin abraded by the contact with the boards caused the bruise to appear more serious than it really was.
