CRISIS DUE IN CERMAK FIGHT FOR HIS LIFE Condition Less Favorable Than Generally Supposed, Say Private Reports. BY EDWARD W. LEWIS I nited Pres* Staff Correspondent MIAMI. Feb. 21 .—Physicians continued their optimistic reports on the condition of Mayor Anton J. Cermak of Chicago today, but private reports circulated widely that his condition was less favorable than generally was supposed. Mayor Cermak has been restless throughout recent nights, when he was reported to have been sleeping quietly, these reports said, and has suffered considerable abdominal pain. It definitely was learned that he had developed dysentery, but medical authorities insisted this was not unfavorable because the disease reduced the danger of intestinal blood clots from the wound administered by Giuseppi Zangara. Expert Crisis Today A report current in well-informed circles was that Mayor Cermak's physicians expected him to reach a crisis today. If he shows no signs either of lung congestion or of weakening of the heart by night, it was said, he had a good chance to recover completely from the effects of his wound. But the danger of pneumonia from the shock of the wound, or of a dangerous strain on his heart, is said to be giving his doctors considerable concern. Hospital attendants at 9 this morning said Cermak was sleeping peacefully after a qu'et night. Mrs. Joseph Gill, also wounded dangerously by Zangara, appeared to be progressing satisfactorily today. Zangara Gets 80 Years Zangara was sentenced Monday to eighty years in prison on four counts of assault with intent to murder. One count was based on his confessed attempt to kill PresidentElect Roosevelt. The other three resulted from the wounding of two men and a woman, who suffered minor injuries from his bullets. Ater pleading guilty to these charges, Zangara was returned to the Dade county jail to await additional sentence in connection with his attacks on Mayor Cermak and Mrs. Gill. BLOCKS SUICIDE EFFORT Man Persuades Woman to Leave Fall Creek Flood Wall. Attempt of a women to end her life was believed frustrated today when she was persuaded by John Thompson, 60, of 2718 Barton avenue, to leave a flood retaining wall, on which she was standing at Fall creek and College avenue. The woman, Mrs. Theo Raney, 47. of 1315 North Alabama street, when accosted by Thompson, said she was “going to end it all," police were told. She was weeping, Thompson said. A bystander then summoned police, who took the woman to city hospital, where she was placed in the psychopathic ward.

Eczema on Cheek. Baby Cross and Fretful. Cuticura Healed. “When our son was three months old eczema broke out in a patch about the size of a quarter on his cheek. It was very red looking and kept spreading, and the itching annoyed him so that he was cross and fretful and could not sleep. “Then I remembered using Cuticura Soap and Ointment and sent for a free sample of each. Within a week’s time I could see that his face was clearing. I purchased more and it was only a matter of a month or six weeks until he was completely healed.” (Signed) Mrs. Daniel Moody, R. And So Polite! Two Bow to Pastor, He Finds They Have Paid. Looting Visit.
By United Pres * DETROIT, Feb. 21.—The Rev. Samuel H. Forrer met two men leaving the office of the Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian church, and bowed to them. They returned his courtesy, entered a parked automobile and drove away. Inside the pastor found the church secretary, Miss Hortense Sherman, huddled in a chair, the telephone wires cut, and the safe open. The two men, both armed, had taken S6OO in church collections, which Dr. Forrer had been unable to deposit because of the Michigan bank holiday. GIVEN 5-YEAR TERM ON NARCOTIC COUNT Stamp Scheme Also Lands Woman in Prison. A clever scheme by which he received narcotics under stamps on letters while in jail at Terre Haute, today resulted in Claude Smith, Cincinnati, being sentenced to five years by Federal Judge Robert C. Baltzell. Mrs. Grace Dunn, Cincinnati, who admitted sending the narcotics to the jail, was sentenced to eighteen months in the woman's prison at Alderson, W. Va. Smith pleaded with Baltzell that he be permitted to serve Mrs. Dunn's sentence for her. Sentence of a year and a day in prison was imposed on Frank A. Fehrenbach, 59, Terre Haute banker, accused of stealing about $4,000 from the bank. DON’T WORRY when you lose a valuable article.
