FRENCH AIRMEN OVER ATLANTIC; SEEK RECORD Long-Distance Mark Is Goal of Two Crews; $40,000 Prize at Stake. By United Press MARSEILLES. Prance. Feb. 10 Two veteran French airmen. Lucien Boussoutrot and Maurice Rossi, left Lstres airport here today on a projected nonstop flight of 6,200 miles to Buenos Aires. If successful, they will win the world's long-distance flight record. Meanwhile, Jean Mermoz. French air mail pilot, and his six companions in the monoplane Arc-En-Ciel, left Buenos Aires early today, determined to “break all records” on a flight across the Atlantic to Istres airport. Mermoz landed later in the day at Rio de Janeiro, from where he will start the Atlantic hop. The record the Frenchmen seek to break w'as won only two days ago by Great Britain from the United States when Squadron Leader Gayford and Flight Lieutenant Nicholetts flew 5,240 miles from England toward Cape Town.
