Passage of a bill for an eight-hour basic working day for women in industry will .be recommended to the senate today by Judiciary C committee. of which Senator Chester A. Witson tL)em.. Ft. Wayne), is chairman. This bill was introduced by Senator Fred A Egan 'Dem., Gary), who said he is hopeful that it will be passed by th> senate without any liberalization of its provisions. Exceptions in favor of seasonal occupations, Egan said, already have been made, but further exceptions will be resisted. Compromise on retention of the teacher tenure law is indicated by Senator Walter S. Chambers 'Dem.. Newcastle t, who is prepared to offer an amendment to the pending Schricker bill limiting tenure to cities having a population of more than 18.000. Indianapolis and about twenty other cities, if the Chambers amendment is adopted, would retain tenure and all other schools units in Indiana would be exempt. Sharp debate is anticipated when the proposed change is presented. Receiver Bill Hits Snag Proposal by Senator J. Francis Locharri <Dem., Milan), to cure receivership evils struck a snag when a senate committee adopted a split report on Lochard’s bill. Senators Druley and Dennigan today signed a minority report in favor of the measure and are prepared to argue against the majority report for indefinite postponement. Lochard's bill applies to all suits for receivership where preferred stock and bonds are outstanding against, property. In these cases, the bill provides the receiver shall be named by a majority of the security owners instead of the judge hpanng the case. Boost in fees for county sheriffs, wiping out reductions made at last summer’s special session of the assembly, are provided in a bill to be reported favorably by a senate committee today. For Reduced Pay Senator George Sands (Dem., South Bond) and Senator Egan are co-authors of the measure under terms of which a sheriff can. collect increased mileage for himself and his deputies for transportation of prisoners. General reductions in salaries of public officials, put into effect last
