LEAGUE HOLDS PERU INVADED AMAZON PORT Colombia Upheid and Foe Warned to Keep Off Disputed Area. By 1 mil it I'riss GENEVA, Jan. 26.—The League of Nations took a stand in the Leticia dispute today considered tantamount to justifying Colombia in expelling Peruvians who are holding the tiny Amazonian port which the league considers Colombian territory. The council approved a telegram to Peru warning her to “refrain from any intervention by force on Colombian territory.” Peru was asked to make sure that military commanders took no action beyond the defense of Peruvian territory. and that Colombian authorities were not hindered in exercising “full sovereignty of jurisdiction in the territory recognized by treaty as belonging to Colombia.” A cable to the Colombian government quoted the message to Peru and added the hope that Colombian officials “in the exercise of their legitimate rights will take the strictest precautions to avoid violation of Peruvian territory. The action was surprising in that Peru submitted the dispute to the council. Several league delegates at Peru, however, as the only treaty registered with the league, recognizes Leticia as belonging to Colombia. G. F. BERG, VETERAN PRESSMAN, IS DEAD Newspaper Worker Taken at Home After Short Illness. Following an illness of six days, George F. Berg, 83, veteran newspaper pressman in Indianapolis and a life-long resident of the city, died Wednesday at his home, 1702 East Twelfth street. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon in the Harry W. Moore funeral home, 2050 East Michigan street. Burial will be in Concordia cemetery. Mr. Berg was a member of the newspaper Pressmen's Union, and the German Lutheran church.
