Leisure Hour clubs, which have formed recreation units for men and women, are extending their activities this week to boys and young men, Dwight Ritter, manager of the programs, said today. Thirty young men, between 18 and 25, are being organized this week into a unit which will write and give original plays and form a basketball team. The organization is being formed at the club at School 22, South Illinois and Kansas streets. The first organization meeting will be held at 8:30 Saturday morning. J. F. Westmeier, director of athletics in one of the Indianapolis churches, will be in charge of basketball activities for the club. The auditorium of the school is to be opened for two hours each Saturday for basketball practice for members, and from 3 to 5 each afternoon for practicing plays. Mrs. Eugene Fife, dramatic teacher at Butler university, and Robert Oberreich will direct the production of the plays. George Lewis, one of the members of the new organization, has written several short plays which will be presented. Similar orgaizations for boys and young men are being formed in other Leisure Hour centers. The club at School 34, Wade and Boyd streets, and the Michigan and Noble streets club soon will have units for boys’ recreation. At the Oak Hill club, which is a daytime club, on organization has been formed which is studying debating. under the direction of Robert Finfrock. graduate of Indiana university. This unit meets each morning. It is planning a minstrel show, to be given at the Oak Hill club. Oak Hill Club will have a theater party Saturday, Jan. 28, in the Hollywood theater, Sheldon street and Roosevelt avenue. A talk and demonstration on “Home Nursing’’ was given this afternoon at the meeting of the women’s club at Oak Hill community center. Michigan and Noble Club will entertain tonight with a eucher party. Because of a conflict with the school basketball date, Crispus Attucks Club will give their program tonight instead of Friday night.
