CHURCHES TO HAVE BEAUTIFUL CHRISTMAS PROGRAMS

Pastors’ Yuletide Messages ’ and Elaborate Musical Pageants to Be Presented Sunday PROTESTANT and Catholic churches of Indianapolis will observe Christmas Sunday in prayer, song and service. Because Christmas comes on the Sabbath this year, many churches had their musical programs and entertainment last Sunday. Pastors of the city will deliver their Christmas messages, most of them at the morning services. The impressive masses of the Catholic churches will be sung on Christmas. eve and on Christmas Sunday.

Following the Christmas message of Bishop Francis of All Saints’ Cathedral, the congregation will make its Christmas offering to Christ in the person of His needy ones. It is announced that, in anticipation of a liberal Christmas offering, funds already have been advanced to care for the needy in the parish of the cathedral. Mass Broadcast The Christmas midnight mass services at the Little Flower church, Fourteenth streeet and Bosart avenue, will be broadcast over WFBM, The musical program will begin Saturday night at 11:45, with an organ recital and will be followed by the singing of Christmas carols by the choristers of the church. A solemn high mass will be sung at 12 midnight, by the Rev. John J. Doyle of the Catholic university, Washington, D. C., assisted by the Rev. John J. Shaughnessy and Morand Widolff. A number of students of St. Meinrad seminary also will take part in the ceremony. The Rev. Charles Duffey, pastor of the Little Flojwer church, will deliver the sermon. The male choir and choristers will sing under the direction of the Rev. Raymond Marchino. Mrs. Charles P. Hanrahan is the organist.

Midnight Mass The Schola Cantorum of SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral will sing the mass In honor of St. Lawrence (J. Alfred Schehl), under the direction of Elmer Andrew Steffen, diocesan director of church music. This program will be broadcast over station WKBF. The Rev. John O’Hara, C. S. C., prefect of religion at the University of Notre Dame, will speak during the ceremonies. At the communion. Father O'Hara will preach a sermon to his radio audience. The program will open at 11:30 p. m. Saturday with an organ recital. The Most Rev. Joseph Cha?trand, D. D., bishop of the diocese, will pontificate at the solemn high mass at midnight. Assisting will be the Rev. Elmer Ritter, D. D., rector of the cathedral, the Rev. James Hickey and the Rev. Henry Hermann.
