Municipal Gardens. Belmont theater, Belmont avenue and Washington street, free theater party in afternoon, auspices of Hawthorne social center club. Strong possibility of free movie shows for Leisure Hour Club members every five or six weeks throughout the winter months was seen today in a letter sent to Indianapolis theater proprietors by the Associated Theater Owners of Indiana. The letter requested the owners to consider free shows in their neighborhood to aid the Leisure Hour movement in giving entertainment during the idle hours of citizens. Charles R. Metzger, attorney for the association, with headquarters at 444 North Illinois street, in the letter told the theater owners that films of comedy nature would be loaned by city film exchanges without cost. He said the union of moving picture operators would furnish a man to operate the afternoon's show without cost to the theater owner. “The only expense to the theater owner will be light and heat,’’ the letter said. Aims of the Leisure Hour movement were praised in the letter. The Belmont Theater, Belmont avenue and Washington street, is one of the first city theaters to give a free Leisure Hour show. The I matinee is billed for Triday. Tickets will be distributed at the Hawthorne community house. C. G. Baker is chairman. One thousand tickets are to be given away. Daytime Club Opened The first daytime club opened today when Oak Hill’s room for reading and games at 2001 Winter avenue, Compton’s hall, was placed in use. Neighbors crowded the club to while away the hours playing games and reading magazines donated by persons in the neighborhood. Any one with games, travel magazines, and fiction they’ve tired of, are urged to take them to city branch libraries and tell the librarians they are for the “Leisure Hour Clubs,” and they will be distributed among daytime organizations. Minstrel Show Planned Minstrelsy will headline two programs this week among Leisure Hour organizations. On Wednesday night the Indianapolis Cubs’ Recreation Club will give a minstrel show at the Rhodius Park Community house. A repeat performance will be given Friday night by the Cubs at the Municipal Gardens club meeting. The show at the Gardens will be that club’s first Leisure Hour entertainment. Dances on Program Dancers from the Florence McShane school will be the highlight of the Garfield park club's program in the community house on Wednesday night. Songs, games led by Mrs. Bert Nelson, and charades will be other features of the program. Attendance on Rise Growth of the Leisure Hour movement has reached such a stage that Dwight S. Ritter, director, headquarters 911 Majestic building, forecasts that before winter's one-half gone that twenty-five evening clubs and twenty daytime organizations will be on the roils. He believes the original attendance estimate of 5.000 at weekly meetings will be boosted to between 7.500 and 10,000. Club to Be Opened The stove is in. The room has been cleaned up. And the daytime clubroom at 633 East Michigan street will be opened to the neighborhood at a night meeting on Tuesday. Club members canvassed the neighborhood for a stove and found it. Owner of the property on East Michigan street has granted the club the right to use the room rentfree. Club members will take turn about acting as custodian of the new daytime organization. Five Clubs Planned Five new clubs are planned in the vicinity of Tuxedo street, Brightwood, North Indianapolis. South W T est street, and the Butler-Fair-view area.
