LOWELL QUITS AS PRESIDENT OF HARVARD U. Institution’s Second Chief Since Civil War: 23 Years in Office. By United Pmi CAMBRIDGE. Mass., Nov. 22. Dr. Abbott Lawrence Lowell, Harvard university’s second president since Civil war days, has offered his resignation to the university's board ol overseers. The board has accepted with regret. The resignation is to be effective when his successor is appointed. Dr. Lowel], who was elected president of Harvard on Jan. 13, 1909, and took office May 19. 1909, will celebrate his seventy-sixth birthday anniversary on Dec. 13. Dr. Lowell, successor to Dr. Charles W. Eliot, president from 1869 to 1909, marked his own administration with a series of important reforms in educational method and procedure. These reached a climax in inauguration of the so-called “house plan,” made possible through the $13,000,000 gift of a Yale graduate, Edward M. Harkness. INJUNCTION IS SOUGHT Morgan Fights to Prevent Sheriff From Collecting Judgment. By United Pre SCOTTSBURO, Ind., Nov. 22.—A permanent injunction enjoining Sheriff Wilbur Amick of Scott county from collecting a Judgment against Ivan C. Morgan, Republican state chairman and operator of a canning factory at Austin, was being sought today In a petition on ffle with Circuit Judge Frank Gardner. The Judgment was obtained against Morgan as a stockholder in the Defunct Burney state bank. The injunction was asked on ground? thkt the suit should have been brought in Morgan’s home county of Scott rather than In Decatur county where the judgment was obtained.
