SKIES TO RAIN FIRE AND STARS SEEMTO FALL Meteor Shower on Great Scale Forecast Before Dawn Wednesday. BY WATSON DAVIS Mna(in( Editor. Science Servlee. Fire will rain from the skies, the stars will appear to fall, add even in daylight fireballs may be seen to flash in the heavens. The most thrilling meteor shower for ninetynine years may occur in the early morning hours of Wednesday. The astronomers who have made the hopeful prediction accent the word “may.” For thirty-three years ago the world was excited by predictions of the repetition of the famous display of meteors of Nov. 13, 1833. Then the skies did not deliver. Jupiter was blamed for pulling the sun-encircling meteor stream away from the earth. This time there is hope that the great shower of Leonid meteors will return. Periodic showers have been seen since 902 A. D. Long ago a comet, perhaps the parent of Tempel's comet which travels the same heavenly path as tho Leonids, have disintegrated. Worth Watching For It probably gave birth to the swarm of particles that are consumed with flashes when they meet the friction of the earth's air. Watchers below call them shooting or falling stars. Although there is no absolute assurance that the prediction for a great meteor shower will be fulfilled, it will be well worth the loss of a fe# hours of sleep to attempt to see it. Grandmothers today repeat the stories their mothers told them of the great shower of 1833. Go out into the country, away from blinding lights. If the display meets expectations this may not be necessary, but the less disturbing light the better. Do not start before about 11 o’clock and stay up all night if you can, because the display may peak at 4 or 5 o’clock. Locate Leo Group Locate in the eastern sky the group of stars known as Leo. It can be told by the “sickle” that is contained wtihin it. From this area of the sky the meteors will seem to radiate. A map of the stars will be useful, but not necessary. Make yourself comfortable and watch the sky. Have someone keep track of the time and announce the half hours. During each half hour interval, each member should count to himself, not aloud, the meteors he sees. Separate counts should be made. Seme will see more than others, as one set of eyes can not see the whole sky at once. One member can keep the half-hour scores of" this meteor game. When very brilliant meteors are seen, or when long-enduring trains are left by them, note accurately the time, the color, and relative brilliance of the meteor. FIGHTS ASSESSMENT CUT FOR INDUSTRIES Northern Indiana Assessor Says Tax Burden Left Mostly to Little Man. By United Press HAMMOND, Ind., Nov. 15.—Preliminary hearing into a petition by Frank R. Martin, North township assessor, to increase taxable assessments of several north township industries by approximately $9,000,000 will be held in East Chicago, Dec. 2, by the state tax board. Final hearing on the issue will be held at Indianapolis Dec. 7, Martin was advised by James Showalter, chairman of the tax board. Martin demanded the hearing after the county board of review reduced his 1934 taxable valuations by approximately $10,000,000. The reduction, he said, placed most of the burden of taxation in the township on the small taxpayer.

Anew altitude record, folks—for sheer goodness and performance. Standard Red Crown made it, of course. With the help of big blimp-like balloons called Breather Bags. Every drop of Standard Red Crown you buy now contains its full share of those powerpacked, pep-producing, quickstarting vapors you always pay for and seldom get. We mean those hard-to-keep “light ends” that escape from gasoline somewhere between the cracking stills and the gasoline tank of your car. How to keep these valuable vapors in the gasoline has been a knotty problem for refineries. But Standard Oil has solved it by connecting its storage tanks with Breather Bags. Now when the heat of the sun on the big

Before Standard Oil engineers invented and patented the Breather Bag, a large percentage of the potent vapors escaped into the open air during the heat of the day.
