FORD WORKERS HERE RECEIVE HOOVER ‘PLEA' No Attempt Is Made to Conr trol Votes, Assure Company Heads. “To prevent times from getting worse and help them to get better, j President Hoover should be reelected.” This assertion, carried in bold type, today standß forth on cards distributed to employes of the local branch of the Ford Motor Company. The cards, printed in Detroit, are said to have been attached to employes’ time slips. Meanwhile, reports of the Republican campaign of fear have been reduced, and it is understood that Prosecutor Herbert E. Wilson, who had issued warnings of vote intimidation to local employers, had decided information he uncovered was insufficient for grand jury action. The Ford bulletin sets out that the company is not interested in partisan politics and then adds: “We do not seek, to control any man's vote. "We feel, however, that the coming election is so important to in- , dustry and employment that our employes should know our views, “President Hoover has overcome the. forces that almost destroyed industry and employment. His efforts to start the country back to work are beginning to show results. We are convinced that any break in his program would hurt industry and employment. “To prevent times from getting worse and help fhrm to get better, President Hoover should be re-elect-ed. “These are our convictions and we submit them to the serious consideration of all Ford Motor employes compafiy and their families. “One of the, cards has been turned over to Prosecutor Wilson for his consideration. • Postmaster Leslie D. Clancy announced today that no political pressure will be placed on employes of the postoflice. Not only have postal employes not been told to vote for President Hoover, Clancy said, but they have not even been advised, at least officially, to vote at all. “They all are entitled to vote, as citizens,” Clancy said, "but we arc not telling them anything. The average employe's reaction usually is to do just the opposite of what his employer suggests.” POLITICAL MAIL LIGHT Use of local radio stations sharply has decreased the amount of campaign literature sent through the mails by the various political parties, Postmaster Leslie D. B’J t 'nltri Prrss NEW YORK, Nov. 5.—A courtroom in general sessions mas thrown into confusion when a witness for the prosecution positively identified two different men as the actual killers of a policeman. The witness, Joseph Thomas, Negro, was describing the shooting of Patrolman James Burke last June. The prosecutor asked him to pick out xhe “trigger man” who was with three co-defendants. He walked to Alfred Celentano and placed his hand on his shoulder. Five minutes later, he was asked again to pick out the killer. This time he selected Vincent Walsh.

R. F. C. SLASHES CITY'S POOR AID Allows $250,000 Instead of $500,00 Requested. Instead of the $500,000 poor relief loan requested. Indianapolis has been allowed but $250,000, according to a Washington dispatch received by the United Press today. William H. Book, who represented the city por relief committee, and Dr. John H. Hewitt, state unemployment relief director, were in Washington to make negotiations with the federal Reconstruction Finance Corporation. The dispatch set out that the loan of $250,000 is to provide for poor relief financing from Oct. 6to Nov. 30. This will pay for purchases already made from wholesale grocers, whom, it is said, have been carrying the accounts of retailers who put out the poor relief baskets. There will be no increase in money available as this amount will replace notes that would have been issued. ROAD PAYSET AT 35 CENTS New Schedule Makes $10.50 a Week Top Wage. Thirty-five, instead of 40 cents an hour, has been set by the state highway commission for common labor on construction projects to be financed by federal aid, it was announced today by Ralph Simpson, assistant state highway director. Previously the 40-cent figure had been announced, but Simpson said the commissioners decided on 35 cents for common labor and 45 cents as the minimum for skilled labor on the first projects to be advertised, Nov. 22. Originally, a 30-cent minimum had been planned, ne said, but it was learned that on the federal aid projects work must be limited to thirty hours a week for each workman. So the sum was increased. At 35 cents, the laborer wall be able to earn but $10.50 a week. The thirty-hour limitation was put into the law as part of President Hoover's plan for “staggering employment” to give more unemployed laborers jobs.

In a full page ad, the paper said: ‘‘We don't need any skunk hides; we won't use any ax handles. “But we can and will take hickory nuts, black walnuts, chunk wood, wheat, corn, sorghum, good Irish or sweet potatoes. “What have you? Come and let's swap.”

WAYNE, Ind., Nov. s.—'"The thinking Negro no longer will be fooled by false promises, mention of Lincoln, and campaign representations.” F. B. Ransom of Indianapolis, manager of the Mme. Walker Manufacturing Company and prominent Negro leader of the state, told hundreds of Negroes at a rally here Thursday, night. Ransom scored Republican Negro organizations "that spring up every four years to get a feed and a taxi ride and then go out of existence.” He said these directed all their opposition to the Democratic party and Its vice-presidential nominee, John N. Garner, on two things—“alleged failure of the southland to regard the thirteenth, fourteenth and fifteenth amendments to the Constitution and the lynching record of the state of Texas.” “About the only thing the Negro has obtained from the distinguished leader of the senate, James E. Watson, is a slap on the back at election time,” Ransom said.
