FLAT FEET AND SPEEDY HEARTS MARKJO-EDS But the ‘Boy Friends’ of Indiana Central Are Stoop-Shouldered. The co-eds of Indiana Central are as vulnerable in the feet ®s Achilles was in his notorious heel. But any boy friend that mentions It would be dipped in the modern sarcasm with “heel.” Archly speaking, that’s what the trouble is with the co-eds. Half of them, according to the college’s physician, Dr. R. J. Spivey, have flat feet. Then the co-eds come back with the rest of Dr. Spivey’s report of a phypsical examination of the college’s personnel by pointing out to the corduroyed males of the school that he has declared them understudies for the part of the “Hunchback of Notre Dame” due to their stooped shoulders. Ninety out of 160 girls examined have speedy heart throbs, the doctor says. But the co-eds reply to this with the alibi, “You're not so bad to look at, doctor. Why shouldn’t our tickers keep double-time? You're unfair.” As the argument between co-eds and *eds” rages, the masculine ones point to the doctor’s statement that the girsl have a tendency toward “lordosis curves.” Now a “lordosis curve” never would get a job in an Earl Carroll revue for it is the opposite of the stoop-shouldered curvature of the boys. Then, too. the doctor finds that some of the coeds have lateral curves of the spine due to carrying school textbooks on the same arm all the time. He suggests that the co-eds alternate the use of arms in carrying their books or to divide the weight. “It wouldn’t be necessary,” retort the co-eds, “if the boy friends would

For five years it was thought tuberculosis was the cause of the pain which 8-year-old Mildred Libby (above) of Coal Hill, Ark., felt in her lung. But a diagnosis at the Chevalier Bronchoscopic clinic of the Temple university hospital, Philadelphia, Pa., revealed that the “tuberculosis” was really a beauty pin she had swallowed when she was 3 and which had lodged in her lung.
learn a little of Sir Walter Raleigh’s gentlemanly stuff.” The bi-weekly publication of the college, The Reflector, editorializes the depression in arches and the sagging of manly shoulders with: "If you see a couple coming down the street locking like the halt and the blind—think nothing ot it! It’s probably a stoop-shouldered idiot with his flat-footed sweetheart. And her racing heart probably has no connection with her love life but only indicates that she has superin fa-ultra-carditis.
