ANTI-SALOON BACKING GIVEN REPUBLICANS G. 0. P. Nominees Listed as Favorable to Indiana Dry League. Virtual Indorsement of a majority of Republican candidates for state office in Indaina is contained in a report on nominees made public to1y by the Indiana Anti-Saloon League. The report is headed with the names of the presidential candidates, the word ‘‘recommended'’ following the name of President Hoover. Following this is an official statement: “We neither indorse the modification policy of President Hoover nor the repeal program of Mr. Roosevelt. We do, however, recognize a difference in the candidates. We feel that more of the gains of prohibition may be defended successfully and conserved with Mr. Hoover than with Mr. Roosevelt.” Van Nuvs Stand Listed Public stand of Frederick Van Nuys, Democratic candidate for United States senator, for outright repeal of the eighteenth amendment and modification of the Volstead act, is cited. Qualified indorsement of Senator James E. Watson is given, pointing out he has voted dry in pre- j vious sessions of congress, but now favors some amended form of the eighteenth amendment, but not modification of the Volstead act. For Governor, no indorsement is given, although the name of the Republican candidate, Raymond S. Springer, bears the notation, “excellent record.” Other Republicans Named Similar modified indorsement is given Joseph B. Kyle, Republican candidate for Lieutenant-Governor; Bert C, Morgan, Republican nominee for secretary of state; Floyd O. Jellison, Republican, for attorneygeneral; Clarence R. Martin, nominee for supreme court judge. Third district, and Elmer Q. Lockyear and Noel C. Neal, Republicans, for appellate court judge.
