Gandhi suffered a paralytic stroke soon after he ceased his recent “fast unto death,'’ the Daily Harald quoted close friends of the Mahatma here as saying today. News was suppressed at Poona, the Herald said. The Herald did not reveal Gandhi's present condition. The Mahatma suffered a slight stroke in 1930. POONA. India. Oct. 18.—The Mahatma Gandhi is well and has not been ill since he ceased his recent fast, officials of Yerovda jail told the United Press today. 13 NOT SO UNLUCKY Number Dogs Couple; Even Got Married on That Day, By United Prrnn MEMPHIHS, Tenn., Oct. 18.— Thirteen is not an unlucky number for Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Pemberton. Mrs. Pemberton was born in 1913. The couple married Sept. 13 1931. They were thirteen miler from home when they were married, and there were thirteen people at the wedding. There were 13 cents left in Mr. Pemberton's pocket after "paying the parson.” WAR ON CITY NOISE Budapest Citizens Form League to Obtain Lots of Quiet. B]l T nited Prrnn BUDAPEST. Oct. 18.—In a short time you should be able to hear a pin drop in Budapest. Prominent citizens have decided to rid the city of noise caused by loudspeakers and street traffic, especially the sounding of automobile horns. They have formed an anti-noise league, and the first step in their campaign has been to secure the co-operation of all inhabitants in reducing noise to a minimum. MULE OUTRANKS MAN His Labor Is Worth More, According to French Tax Survey. PARIS, France, Oct. 18.—Man’s labor is of less value than a mule’s, according to recent statistics compiled here. According to state road taxes, man’s labor is tabulated as just slightly above that of the donkey. The estimates are as follows; Mule or horse, a little over 52 cents; man, a little over 28 cents, and the donkey, a little over 20 cents. Hearst to Leave Hospital By United Prrnn CLEVELAND, Oct. 18.—William Randolph Hearst, publisher, probably will leave Cleveland Clinic hospital where he is convalescing from an operation “within a few days,” his doctor said today. Automobile of W. A. Boeling. 5826 North Delaware street, containing cigarets valued at $l2O, was reported stolen today from its parking place on South Meridian street near Washington street. Boeling, an employe of the Hook Drug Company, was making a delivery at a company store when the car was stolen.
